Alienware Show Off Their SteamOS Steam Machine, Looking Very Positive, More Games To Come

alieanware doesnt give a crap about linux overall... but its not personal. They dont give a crap about anybody, they just follow the money...
(not that i care much... if they follow my agenda without trying to tricking me too much, they will see my money as well)

Quoting: skryCertainly made me see Alienware in a bit different light than before. Might even consider purchasing one now. I'm so easily deceived by marketing folk..to be honest i think this kind of move comes from valve... alieanware just is happy to comply with valve since they are in the middle to harvest earnings doing not much work only their thing...

Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.

We can ask ourselves... does bethesda have any incentive to want an open platform instead of windows? has ms threaten bethesda recently? I would guess that recently ms sugarcoated its platform to bethesda like a lot if they ever scared them with its own store like it happened with steam..
Another idea pointing on the same direction is that bethesda have little reason to change platform when you are already the dominant player on yours. You dont want to foster innovation or other players to thrive... Its already hard enough to believe that valve want this on the first place (i mean, i only believe it because it the ms' threat of the store competence is real)
And the third idea i can come up pointing in the same direction as well is that i think bethesda is the only big name that didnt join the vulkan api affort.
maybe you all are right... and my first guy instinct of "fuck, we are being fucked again!" was right as well :/
you guys have convinced me... This is more likely a hostile movement from bethesda... what a bunch of motherfuckers.
i will buy steam machine, but at least i wont wait for it like a teenager girl anymore :)

Quoting: PeciskI do know about steam ideas... i certainly dont know much about bethesda. Steam side was really interested in doing the paid mods as well. As in "this is going to foster better mods and its awesome... oh, and by the way, we get a cut".Quoting: aLThe only reason i can think of is that a third player like microsoft + the competence have put a shit-ton of money on bethesda's table in order to damage the competence. Old habits die hard and i think ms still pull off these kind of movements to get deals daily. Some people even think they are legit movements for an enterprise...Maybe I am pessimist by nature (well, I suffer from depression now and then) but overall after seeing Bethesda yesterday during XBO show it felt almost likely scenario.
Also add fact that Bethesda seems to be more and more interested in green (I personally believe that pay for mods was driven by them) and launching their own DRM client...definitely no Fallout 4 for Linux in foreseeable future, and most likely it is a planted strategy move to tarnish Steam Machines image (you don't run coolest stuff, you suck).

I still dont believe in these kind of coincidences. Either they get along with steam or they dont. I refuse to believe that bethesda is playing the 'im too dumb and self involved to check the calendar before i pick up my release date' card.
For me, playing in the same field (videogames) and both playing in the first league and out of a holiday date, is a very hostile movement to release on the same day if you are not going to release for my platform. Bethesda might be in a strong enough position not to give a fuck about steam... but why create yourself a powerful enemy like that unnecessarily? Even if they fucked up the launch, they still know better than the rest...
if you release a week before or later, nobody is going to think that you are being hostile and you still do about the same damage to the launch of the other product stealing its thunder.

Quoting: KeizgonCould you link it to me? All I found was the improvised Saturday PR stunt he had to make [External Link] but im not able to read what you say anywhere...Quoting: aLBut now that you mention it... and I start to accept it as a possibility... it maybe make sense... hear me out...Actually, the more I think about it, it probably isn't coming to Linux. Remember the failure of the paid mods? When Gabe publicly stated on a reddit post (you can Google it), he stated that the drama and uproar around it costed them a butt load a cash (millions). Many were sceptical and assumed he meant customer service, but I believe the possibility of Valve losing Bethesda's confidence may have costed them some relations damage because Bethesda got a lot of shit from their customers as well.
I dont believe in coincidences. Would bethesda want to sabotage steamOS machines on launch day? Well, they were in bed pretty close when the announcement of paid mods for skyrim. That makes me think that they get along... and that the picking of the date was no coincidence...
However, I could be wrong. He could have meant anything, really.
At least there is Wasteland 2.

my first gut instinct when i saw the date was... "fuck!... we are being fucked again..." but as a linux user, nothing new and kept going with my life...
It sincerely never crossed my mind that this could be due to the fact that they are launching for steamos as well... it seems rather wishful thinking to me...
But now that you mention it... and I start to accept it as a possibility... it maybe make sense... hear me out...

Yeah, maybe it is... on the other side... why hide it?
maybe to fuel the hype for steamOS? Yes, to fuel the hype
As a very skeptic linux user whose heart has been broken lots of times before... I believe i am not going to be disappointed here :)
But feel free not to put your heart on the line with this one till the very end ;)

What is sad is that mac users triple us in numbers...
it is also true that they have almost double the number of games... and probably about 3 or 4 times more AAA games than linux... but still...

...this is intentional on valve's side... I dont know the reasons... but they already know exact number of users per platform and the exact amount of time and money... with no room for interpretations...
Why arent they releasing this data...? well, my guess is that knowledge is power and this way only they have this knowledge...

Quoting: linuxgamerehem...Quoting: liamdaweWe have no idea how they are sampling their data, and to state this again, it’s a survey. They should introduce a survey day eg. the 15th of every month to make the survey representative. It also wouldn't be a problem at all to just send 1 additional byte to identify the OS every time users log into Steam. Maybe this is against Valve's user data policy.
