Quoting: Viesta2015Best case scenario would be a valve home console... along with an updated VR Set and have them both separate... it'd allow others to use any piece of VR equipment they wish and use it as a general PC if people wanted. :)
(especially with steam link on quest 3)
Didn't they already try and fail with console hardware by releasing the Steam Link?

I'm so glad they finally pushed the Steam Recommender [External Link] out for public use, as the Discovery Queue was just "We think you'll like this because it's popular". No, I won't. I don't care about the latest influencer craze. I want something I'll actually play. The recommender still needs some work, as it seemed to think my playing FPS games means I'll like Bejeweled, but at least it's not recommending me Palworld, Helldivers 2, Deeprock, etc etc.

Quoting: stormaThanks for this.
I tried Retropie, Recalbox and Lakka but none of them was a smooth experince, Lakka not even starting. Came across this article and gave it a shot. Works well out of the box. This will stay as the default.
Yeah, the Retropie team seems to be dragging their feet quite a bit. I don't know if it's a lack of manpower or what... but their last prebuilt image was for RPi4, on Debian Buster 32-bit. They've missed the launch of Bullseye, removal of OMXPlayer, launch of Pi Zero-2, launch of Bookworm, launch of RPi5 (and it's 64bit-only kernel), standardization of Wayland, and they still have ongoing issues with default audio devices. It's no wonder you constantly see people asking if the project is dead.

Maybe they are waiting to release on Pi Day again?

I've heard the new DRM is near rootkit levels of intrusive. Does that affect just Windows?

Quoting: HighballWhat kind of system were you testing out?
Oh it was entirely too old. 2005-ish gaming PC. I knew the chances were slim but I wanted to try anyway. The fact I got as far as I did is a testament to how versatile Linux desktop is nowadays.

Heh, just as an experiment I installed Debian on a spare drive a few days ago. I fought through the display manager not allowing me to click the password field, reinstalled Debian when I chose an incompatible desktop (KDE Plasma), reinstalled Debian when I chose a wrong desktop again (LXQT), reinstalled again (Cinnamon), reinstalled again (GNOME), finally settled on LightDM and LXDE as the only combo that worked. Ran a string of CAT6 across the room because wireless wasn't working. Immediately tried installing Steam. Package not available. Manually added Steam's repo, attempted install again. CPU not supported.

It was all for fun, but dang what an anticlimax.

I made an account just to say this was at least the 5th, possibly the 7th, or even 9th if you count some of the overseas stuff.
