This kinda makes me wonder more about that rumour that the reason they took down the servers and games was because of potential security liabilities owing to the DNF 2001 leak including Unreal Engine code.

Any chance of a GOG release?

PlayStation 1 emulator DuckStation changes license for no commercial use and no derivatives

Quoting: DrMcCoyThe Creative Commons licenses (except, arguably, CC0) are a terrible, terrible choice for software.
CC0 is not even recommended due to it neglecting to protect against software patents.

Mind you, I dislike all other CC licenses as I find forced attribution aggravating (despiting agreeing its good to maintain a paper trail).

Rather than calling anyone the "bad guy", would you be able to describe what the issue with SwanStation was?

I am entirely unfamiliar with either situation, but at least with SwanStation you can fork it AGAIN if you dislike their managment.

DOOM + DOOM II get bundled together with new enhanced versions

Just to clear up a quick thing: for anyone wanting to play Legacy of Rust on another source port, you just need ID1.WAD -- It needs an MBF21-compatible source port (e.g. dsda-doom, Woof!, GZDoom, etc.), and there are a few cosmetic things that use some brand-new features like the intermission map (basically all the new lumps Gez pointed out -- docs/specs for those coming soon, once we get some damn free time lol). Gameplay-wise you're getting the real deal either way.

So it should be playable natively using source ports, which is good, as I get DLL errors trying the actual binary through Wine.

EDIT: got it running via DSDA-Doom from the Arch User Repository.

For what it is worth, Edward850 on Doomworld confirms they do test with Proton and on Steam Deck, but this also seems to confirm that Proton is the reason we have not gotten any native Nightdive games since Forsaken...

I will probably play Legacy of Rust through a source port at some point, seeing how GOG and Microsoft gave it to me for free. As has been noted on Doomworld, kinda odd to officially integrate SIGIL and not SIGIL 2.

Marathon 2 a classic FPS originally from Destiny developer Bungie now on Steam

Quoting: zkarjIt's unfortunate that Microsoft bought Bungie and discontinued Halo development for Mac, which could have helped with Linux port of Halo. At least Halo runs quite well in wine, although I've heard subsequent versions Halo 2 and beyond cannot be run in wine or even run properly in MS Windows, only in Xbox.
You could try xemu.

I have always been quite wary of these commercial Nightdive remasters outcrowding the open-source community implementations, especially since they essentially abandoned Linux afer Forsaken. It is good then to see projects like this, Doom 64 EX Plus, and Exhumed Plus (WIP), that allow the new content to be available to everyone indefinitly (in 20 years these closed Kex ports will be just as mothballed as the DOS originals). I rather wish someone would update rottexpr to load the Ludicrous Edition content, but given the slow pace of ROTT source port development thus far that might be wishful thinking, and is not even really an option for something like Killing Time or PO'd. Some credit to id for releasing code that made the new Quake releases more easily compatible with the existing source ports.

Quoting: pbI remember reading about it in a magazine and wondering why would anyone make a fps game exclusively for Macintosh. Oh well, I had an Amiga back then and I was busy playing Gloom and Breathless, lol. And some Citadel [External Link], too!
I loved gloom. did you play alien breed 3d that needs a rerelease. but the level design was excellent. could do with a resolution boost though

There you go. Also Gloom has a source port called ZGloom.
