Quoting: skinnyrafThe fact that Valve created SteamOS to show Microsoft Steam is not dependent on Windows was obvious from the beginning - and yet many people are surprised each time someone mentions it, one example being the famous Dell interview about Alienware Alpha/Steam Machines.
Well, I hoped that Valve would not just do the least that's required to show independence from Windows but really push the new platform even in the mid to long term. And THAT's what I don't see happening. Just as Geldrich's post hints. That is what I feared and what I'm surprised by this blog post because it names it quite directly.

After all, I am not even sure if Steam on Linux is still this threatening club over MS's head.
For that, way more AAA titles must be available with high-quality ports day one.
Don't see that happening in 2017 despite all optimistic people here.
I heard that before.

EDIT: Still, hope YOU guys are right.

EDIT2: I see that I say "ports", when I just mean Linux as a target platform just from the game dev itself.
Actually I don't want "ports".

Valve being deeply involved with Linux also gives the company a "worse case scenario" hedge vs. Microsoft. It's like a club held over MS's heads.
Calling this a hedge seems to reveal Valve's actual intentions and is pretty much disappointing, isn't it?
Steam on Linux might only exists to put MS under pressure.
And IMHO I think this is unfortunately the case.

Think about it: Probably, the initial big efforts by Valve were
just meant to create a big enough credibility behind this project.
Steam on Linux is clearly losing momentum, if Valve/Newell were really
up to change that - the money is there.

Valve still develops games? Cool.

The circuit building simulator 'SHENZHEN I/O' gets 'overwhelmingly positive' reviews from Steam users

I simply love the Zachtronics games, in particular TIS-100 and Shenzon I/O.

Excited to see what they will come up next. :)

I'm a bit disappointed they didn't provide a key to Liam or answered at all.

To those already playing Shenzen I/O:

My Notebook gets *very* hot (running on the intel IGP),
that's not the case on Windows 10 (same machine).
Do you experience something similar?
The graphics don't look very demanding...

Such a great game. Yet, not for me.
Damn, I still want a great story-based single player campaign,
and I'd pay extra for it.

I'm so sick of all these sandbox and multiplayer-only games.
The recent trend is definitely not my friend.

I know, *good* and long single-player campaigns are hard to produce
and costly. But, as I said, I'd pay extra for it. Really.

Quoting: KeyrockHas Nintendo tried to sue them yet? I ask because holy **** does that look like a copy & paste of Zelda 2, right down to the color palette and attack animations. That's not to say it's a bad thing. I'm one of the wacky people out there that really liked Zelda 2.
If you read Kyle's blog he explicitly writes about where he got his inspiration from.
And yes, he seems to be a big Zelda 2 fan. ;)

Alienware manager on Steam Machines lull: Windows 10 changed things

Quoting: scaineThen, if it's AAA, you might find that the game doesn't launch, or has terrible performance until you update your graphics driver.
Definitely not my experience.

It works far better than some folks here like to admit (or assume).

And this a major issue when it comes to getting more people use Linux for gaming.
I guess it's very unlikely someone switches to Linux due to the UX when it comes to games.
(There might be other reasons, though)
And when they do, they'll be most likely disappointed (in comparison).

I take it as a sad fact.

Alienware manager on Steam Machines lull: Windows 10 changed things

Never had any issue with Windows 10 up to now.
Still have it installed, mainly for gaming.
I'm more than fine with it.

The Talos Principle updated again, new public beta improves their Vulkan support some more
11 Nov 2016 at 2:33 pm UTC

New features:
- Added support for latest ATi and nVidia cards.
What does this mean?
I thought Vulkan, done right, should not require such quirks.
