Is this the same company that already sued because of the Steam Controller a while back?

Edit: ah back paddles it was. So probably a different company.

Nice Steam Controller cameo :)

Zoria: Age of Shattering now skipping Early Access to release in September

Early Access was IMHO supposed to be a way to improve the quality of games at release day and to allow enthusiasts to support small indie developers financially to complete games.

The reality today is that early access is doing the opposite. Steam presents them like normal releases and most players see them as such, but they give developers an excuse to release even more unfinished titles, and small developers now often abandon half-finished games because they think based on early access sales that finishing the game would not recover the costs.

I think this is largely Valve's fault for presenting early access titles in the store like they do.

Minetest 5.7.0 out now with graphics improvements, performance upgrades

Quoting: TcheyIt’s nice this game exists i guess, but it’s trying too much to be a "open Minecraft", IMO.

I much prefer Vintage Story approach, being a deep unique game by itself, with only some distant links to it’s cousin.
Actually Minetest is just a game engine. One of many mods for it is indeed a Minecraft clone (aptly called "Mineclone2") but most are not. You can browser the many available extensions and games for Minetest here: https://content.minetest.net/ [External Link]

EVERSPACE 2 out now, devs focus on Proton for Linux - Steam Deck optimizations planned

Quoting: dillyBut did they improve the ship's controls over the first one? Mainly using gamepad... I played on PS4 and hated the flight controls.
AFAIK no. It is a very mouse driven input style, like the old Freelancer.

EVERSPACE 2 out now, devs focus on Proton for Linux - Steam Deck optimizations planned

While it works fine on Proton, this really is quite annoying and I would have probably not Kickstarted it without the promise of native Linux support. Lets hope they make good on their promise to fully support it through Proton at least (which arguably might be better in the long run anyway).

Ah and for those that never received their Steam keys... apparently they did send out keys to backers in August 2021, but like me many people seem to have never gotten them; Yes I did check my spam folder... So you can ask on the Kickstarter comment section and they will send a PM through Kickstarter with the Steam key.

As for initial impressions: it does capture the Everspace 1 feel quite well, even though it isn't a rogue-like anymore. Personally I would have preferred them sticking to the Everspace 1 game-play formula, but it seems decent enough anyway.

Report: Steam Deck to pass 3 million sales during 2023

What makes it niche is mostly that it is (due to size and type of games) a handheld for adults (not in the NSFW meaning of course). There is just a limited market for adults buying dedicated gaming hardware that is only good for a single user more or less. Consoles (like TVs) are seen as shared family objects and previous small handhelds are mostly bought for children to play with. And regular PCs/Laptops always serve for more than just gaming.

Admittedly, more and more single households and the devaluation of the TV set / living room as a central family gathering place has opened up a market for handhelds like the Deck and the Switch (although the Switch Lite is again targeted at children mostly), but it is still a very limited market, similar to VR gaming hardware.

Integrates with Steam nicely as well, definitely the best UI for a Linux couch PC right now.

Quoting: Julius"Open-Source"... to a very limited extent since it uses the Unity3D engine.

You might want to change the head-line as "Free and Open Source" usually refers to FOSS, and this isn't FOSS at all. Even the assets are under a restrictive NC license.
No, it is not like that. I can use Visual Studio or any other IDE's proprietary vesion and use it to make FOSS applications. It has nothing to do with the builder's license.

Even Linux kernel included many proprietary stuff. That doesn’t mean that the whole kernel is now proprietary.
This is a false analogy. Visual Studio doesn't become part of your application or in fact is most of your application as is the case for this game and Unity3d. The Linux kernel also works perfectly fine without the non-Free firmwares, so again false analogy.
