Killing Floor 2 for Linux is 'indefinitely on hold' as they can't find a developer

You can't expect all the people to behave the same way also you can't expect devs to make the same choices.
Don't understand me wrong.
I said (wrote) that surely the developer showed the right way, but the publisher (employer) took the easy/cheap/fastest way.

And Carmack has since gone on to say that these days he would choose Direct3D. When Carmack was voicing his preference of GL, we were talking about Direct3D 7 and maybe early 8. 9, 10 and 11 are a whole different kettle of fish. GL simply has not kept up to speed.
Yes, these days Direct3D (DX11, DX12) gained in peformance, but before that...;)
MS did/does anything to pull any developer on their side... why should you struggle with OpenGL when you can have it the easy/cheap way.

Realistic racing game 'DRAG' coming to Linux soon, built on Linux and it looks astonishing

This game looks very promising.

Developed on Linux, right?
So this game is build on FOSS.

To ME this means that this game should work well/best with FOSS drivers > MESA.
Hope you guys (developers) do everything to run this baby flawlessly with MESA drivers beside NVIDIA blob.

I would love to see MESA support before any words like "NVIDIA GTX blabla (what ever)" in the release specs;)

Quoting: kalinDo you ever use opengl? OpenGL was and still is abomination. There is a reason for people to prefer direc3d. Why opengl is so fucked up is another topic. Currently I learn vulkan and don't have opinion on it for now.
Please be informed and don't trow statements just like that. Negativism never help. The studio is free to do what ever they want to do with their products. Stop blame them for not porting game that you probably never buy anyway.
OK... now tell me the reason why Id Software always prefers OpenGL?

Changing/Modifing the source code of an application is always a bad idea.
An engine is not different - it's still a piece of software.

Some years ago I have worked for a big selling platform in germany and the heads of it decided to change the source code of MySQL 4.x and failed lousy when MySQL 5.0 arrived. The many changes could not be ported to MySQL 5.x anymore.
Today this company is owned by others - what a surprise;)

I think the guy (project leader) responsible for the decision to make changes to the rendering engine was forced by the publisher to that.
I'm sure he showed a way to do things right but the publisher decided to go the cheaper and faster way.

OpenGL (before Vulkan) is much better/stronger than DiretcX when you know how to use it. Think of Id Software.
But OpenGL is more complex. You need a lot of experience to do the right thing.
OpenGL has many ways to do the same thing but not all lead to best performance.
Id Software has this experience - most developers nowadays do not.

Vulkan WILL change this. But this takes time.

Observer is now available for Linux on GOG, patch available for Mesa users

Quoting: F.UltraI used to use the unstable branch from Padoka but since his automatic build system pushes out DEBs even when the build fails for some of the packages it was always a "ok will my computer work now or will I have terminal only for a week until the next release" so I switched over to the stable branch.

Anyways, good to know that it's coming and that I was simply too eager :)
Good news!
Seems like Tapani could convince Emil Velikov to push the fix to stable. Read here...

Valve hands out VAC bans for having 'catbot' in your Linux username (updated: they're not)
2 Jan 2018 at 12:14 am UTC

Quoting: liamdaweOn this case, Steam could do a lot more than ban usernames to fight bots - which is the point. However, as said they're still doing a lot for Linux gaming behind the scenes and I very much appreciate the work they're doing.
I think that an "anti-cheat-protection" should normally check if the client connecting to the server is known (some kind of hash algorithm) and not modified/unknown. It should also check by undefined interval if the hash does not change after some time.
Is it really necessary to check username, hostname, maybe more?

The sound of the joke flying by over your head. Listen to broader music - I'll let you google around to figure it out.

Oh, and leave that Godwin's Law crap at home. Makes you sound about 12. And a disrepectful 12 year old at that.
No, thank you.
I'm 42 years old, have a wife and wonderful two kids I have to take care.
No time to listen to music made for kids.

And thank you for your kindness.

Quoting: GuestWell, if you want to cry about it, sure. It's your party, can cry if you want to.

Seriously though, probably best to wait and see how it realky goes. Banning without warning for a bit of username fun is bad, but I can't say if that really happened or not.
Now I'm confused.
Do you know what "wannacry" is/was?
It is/was a malware which encrypted thousands of windows computers in may 2017.

Maybe I should have used "sambacry" (linux version of wannacry) or something even more worse like the name of this austrian dictator who killed countless jewish people in ww2 to fortify my last assumption?

Common guys, stop this childish Valve vs GOG wars.

Stupidity does not protect against punishment.
And in the end these guys (guilty or not) are only banned from TF2 - they are still alive, are not hurt, do not suffer from hunger, ... but are simply dumb.

Assumed I invented wannacry. Should I use "wannacry" as my private/public linux/unix account?!
