There's also ChimeraOS, which is an Arch based Bazzite-like replacement. It can boot straight to Steam Big Picture, and is also compatible with multiple handhelds.

As a brand new Bazzite user (and Linux user in general), it's really disappointing to hear this news about Bazzite. So, with that, is there a distro that provides the same kind of experience that Bazzite does that I could try out? I'm particularly interested in a distro that is similar to the security that Bazzite offers (immutable distro, OpenSUSE, etc.)....are there any alternatives anyone could recommend for a Linux n00b?@AlienOne: There's PikaOS, which is based on Debian, and is pretty full-featured, immutable, gaming (and general purpose) distro. Main limitation right now is that they do not have a handheld edition yet.

fabertawe:FWIW, Vortex runs fine under Proton, just need to install .NET 6 runtimes. I install both the runtimes and Vortex in the same prefix as my game, and launch it via Protontricks. With this method there's no permission issues, no need to symlink, no need for SteamTinkerLaunch etc.
I modded Fallout 3 "by hand" and whilst it was good fun, it was also very time consuming and I'd rather do FNV using Nexus Mods! So still waiting...

@TroNing HDR works fine under KDE, or under Gamescope. At least on AMD it does, not sure about nVidia.

I don't get all the negative comments here. A major game release from a major franchise, working flawlessly on day 1 on Linux - I mean, how cool is that?
And I'll probably get downvoted for saying this (oh wait, this isn't Reddit), but I always felt Oblivion was a superior game to Skyrim (better spell system and spell crafting, better quests, beter atmosphere, better UI etc (except leveling, which is admitted better in Skyrim, but thankfully this is no longer an issue now)), so I for one am super excited to see this remaster. I've also never fully clocked Oblivion, so I'm really looking forward to my first vanilla playthru, with no mods to distract me. Also happy to report that it's been running flawlessly on my GPD Win Mini 2024, running CachyOS.

ProtonUp-Qt v2.12 brings a new Steam Deck theme and support for Proton-CachyOS

Anyway, my original point still stands, I don't see the point in Protonup-RS including proton-cachyos in their list, when the primary audience is people who use optimised system libs (be it MARCH and/or PGO/LTO), which at this point is mainly only CachyOS users (and maybe Clear Linux, but who still uses that?).

Some binaries benefit from things like AVX2 in v3 a lot more than others, and the fact that something else on the system uses v2 doesn't change that fact. Not sure what you're trying to say here. But regardless, the MARCH was just one of the optimisations CachyOS does, they also do PGO and LTO for eg.

Hmm, the including of Proton-CachyOS is strange. The main benefit of Proton-CachyOS is being able to use the native system libraries, which on CachyOS, is optimised for your CPU family.
If you're on Cachy (or Arch with Cachy repos), you can just get proton-cachyos from the repos, if you don't have it already.
If you're on other distros, there's not much point in using it, compared to say Proton GE because your system libs are just vanilla x86 or v2 at best...

Proton Experimental adds fixes for GTA V Enhanced and more for Linux / Steam Deck

Does anyone know if this continues your saved game from Legacy (on Linux)? I know Proton GE had a feature which lets a game access the previous/older games's saves, but I don't recall seeing GTA V Enhanced on GE's changelogs (besides the recent GetDpiAwarenessContextForProcess patch).

Perhaps a silly question but could Bazzite be a good replacement for SteamOS on a Steam Deck?Yes, it does pretty much everything better. Like for starters it has a more recent and optimised Linux kernel (+ related packages like the graphics drivers), which typically means better performance, as the Linux kernel and gfx drivers just keep getting better and better ever release. On top of that, there are various tweaks, such as custom CPU schedulers for more consistent frametimes and better multitasking. There's tons of more stuff - so much so that this comment box can't do justice to it - so just check their Github page [External Link] and check it out for yourself. :)
Does it do anything better?

I usually default to using Proton to play games that even have Linux builds available if I can.As they say, the most stable API on Linux is the Win32 API...
