SteamOS updated, Valve drops AMDGPU-PRO for Mesa

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoA long time ago I suggested hidden steam achievements for playing the game on Linux, so the legion of obsessed achievement hunters will install a linux distro and play the game on it just for the sake of to get that steam achievement.
I'm not sure how well that would work, but I definitely like that idea. I suppose only Valve and Linux enthusiast developers would add such an achievement.

Looks like Micro Machines World Series from Codemasters is heading to Linux

That's really awesome! I remember playing the Micro Machines game on the original Nintendo, which was also done by Codemasters. I didn't realize they had been around that long.

SteamOS updated, Valve drops AMDGPU-PRO for Mesa

Quoting: MohandevirIn fact, at this point, it's much more plausible that Microsoft would try to buy Steam and include it, and it's gaming library, into the Windows store... Isn't it how Microsoft eliminates competition, usually? :)
This is why it's a very good thing that Valve is a private company so you can't just "buy" them. Considering that most PC games are bought through Steam, it would probably cost far too much for even Microsoft at this point.

Quoting: UltraVioletPlease forgive my ignorance;

Will this update be coming to the Steam desktop client? And if so, will I be able to use the non proprietary drivers which are not the Mesa ones?
No, this is only for SteamOS. It is possible for you to get this update through whatever distro you use, however. :)

Reus finally updated for Linux bringing it out of Beta, now properly supported

That's funny, I never knew it was in beta. :D I got it in a (indie?) bundle and I played it about 3 years ago and it seemed to run just fine. I never realized it wasn't officially released for Linux :D

Quoting: jd117faeria is having similar issues as well, does any of you guys now a fix in faeria case?
It's likely the exact same fix as this game. You can probably find the prefs for the game in:
.config/unity3d/[Company Name]/[Game Name]/prefs

Quoting: Takthis might explain the differences in performance at different quality levels.
This is exactly what I was thinking when doing that test. I suppose this means Unity's Vulkan possibly might already be the best way to go in certain circumstances such as VR depending on the strain put on the CPU since you need about 90 fps per eye (180 frames worth of draw calls) but usually with lower quality content/rendering? :)
