I haven't really been looking at Steam itself much lately, just playing my games. But what I've noticed is that it used to be, if I double-click a game icon to start a game, Steam would start up, but just in the background--it would stay minimized. Now Steam starts up for real, you get a window and that sub-window telling you about events or sales or what. I don't have to get rid of them before I start playing my game, but I don't like clutter so I do. It's not a real problem but it's mildly annoying.

Doubt it. I mean, which is worse for competition, Embracer Group having to stop its takeovers and axe some studios now, or Embracer Group keeping on for a few more years of grabbing every indie in sight? And it may be good for some other big studios if Embracer Group falters (maybe--or maybe they're fine with fewer indies), but how do the top Embracer Group people make any money from that? Maybe someone like MS persuaded Embracer's backer to back out, but that's not a "planned from the beginning" thing.

Well, I think your original post did feel like you were saying "Anyone who likes games like this is an idiot who should be doing live camera work instead", and anyone who does like games like this might have been miffed by that.

Inviting people to experience other things the interlocutor thinks are good (may think the others would enjoy) it's not the same as insulting them for what they are doing now.

You said "better" to do the real outdoor camera thing. Not just that you would prefer it, but that it is better. If one thing is "better", the other thing is "worse". I'm just saying, that's probably why some people didn't take the comment well, even if that wasn't your intent.

If anything, I took the "just flaunting your equipment" comment as trying to defuse the situation by somewhat jokingly saying you weren't really meaning to slag on people who might like the game, you just wanted to show your cool stuff.
