I'm feeling a bit less like buying Subnautica now.

Dolphin Emulator for GameCube and Wii is coming to Steam

Quoting: pete910This will make Nintendo ecstatic
The amusing thing is that actually it should.
Like, if they embraced the whole deal and stuck a bunch of their games on Steam with a big fanfare they might sell a lot of games with almost zero cost to them.
But we know they won't.

Build bridges over hot lava in Hellgineers

Quoting: Purple Library GuyTungsten might be good?
If you do something to make it less brittle, you'd probably decrease the melting point.
You couldn't use modern steel-bridges sort of techniques, but people used to make bridges out of stone, which is pretty brittle. Just use great big chunks stacked up and base the solidity on arches and stuff, rather than tension and flexibility. It would require ludicrous, unrealistic amounts of tungsten, but we're talking about building bridges over lava here.

Fresh Steam Deck and Steam desktop Beta, Valve dropping old Windows support

Quoting: rcritNot that I have a lot of sympathy for Windows users but dropping 7 is going to be hard pill to swallow for some. The 10/11 compatibility with some games is apparently pretty bad.
This is that moment, you sit back and notice: You have better "Windows games" compatibility on modern Linux than modern Windows.
Hmmm . . . so now we can say to someone "Oh, you run Windows? Well, that's OK I guess, but can you run your games?"

Build bridges over hot lava in Hellgineers

Quoting: MayeulCI'd be interested in a serious version of this. What would it take to build a bridge on lava? Steel pillars? With heatsinks? Heatpipes? Active cooling? :P
Tungsten might be good?

Girl Genius: Adventures In Castle Heterodyne has a new trailer

Quoting: Avehicle7887Proudly brought to you by the same people who abandoned the Linux version of their previous title - World to the West on GOG.
Mm, this is of note. Linux support on GOG would be ideal. I would consider getting it on Steam for Linux for the kids, but I don't like adding troubleshooting steps to their computers, so relying on Proton makes me hesitate.

I'll watch and see. The trailer looks delightful.
Well, that's mostly down to the original material; Girl Genius is a set of graphic novels/webcomic which repeatedly wins Hugos.

Atari are acquiring Night Dive Studios

Quoting: Mumrik93Where did Atari get the money to buy them? The Atari VCS was a massive failure on so many levels I have issues believing any bank would be inclined to give them a loan.
They received €12.5M from their share holders last year by way of a rights issue and got a €2.4M loan from Irata LLC, according to their latest report they are still not profitable and had a higher loss in 2022-H2 then 2022-H1
Hmmm . . . maybe they said to the banks "Look, we aren't profitable, we have no idea how to start turning a profit, and we already owe you money. Our only chance of paying it back is if we take over someone who can make a profit and use their money. Lend us more so we can do that!"

They might go for it--that's more or less the business model of a lot of private equity firms.

Rogue: Genesia is another horde survivor (Vampire-like?) game worth a look
24 Mar 2023 at 5:33 pm UTC

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, someone needs to hunt down what game it is that Vampire Survivor is like. Space Dungeon and Robotron 2084 were basically the beginnings of games like Binding of Isaac. Vampire Survivors added some stuff to the general gameplay and made it more open, but it doesn't feel like it was original in any way, and there were some much older games with pretty much identical gameplay, I just can't place them when I think about it, I can picture it in my head, but damned if I can remember the names. It's also similar to Necromancer on the 8bit computers.
In a way it reminds me of this ancient, ancient game I used to play a bit on the TRS-80. You were surrounded by all these robots closing in on you and had to move your character to stay away from them. It had this big open space surrounded by a mob and evading feel. The big, big difference was, you didn't get to fight back. But that is a pretty sizable difference.

Xwayland Video Bridge created to improve Linux screen sharing

Quoting: usernamerSo this is more of a workaround hack than a definitive solution.
Presumably the definitive solution is for Wayland to become very mature and for everyone to switch to it so nobody is using X or XWayland any more.
