TUXEDO reveal the Stellaris 16 (Gen5) for people with money to burn

So, a device for playing Stellaris on? I mean, up to now I'd been saying I don't mind all the expensive DLC, but this is a bit much!

Quoting: BlackBloodRumWith that said, honestly, I think most "average users" will leave the OS as stock, just like they do with the Steam Deck.
Well, yes. To be honest, I just find it amusing to be in a position to ask the question.
Why so? We're all Linux enthusiasts here, so we all generally have some form of technical background
What does technical background have to do with it? The point is, for all these years every time anything has Linux on it, a ton of Windows types have claimed "Oh, people will just rip it out and put in Windows because Linux suxxor!"
But now, with the Steam Deck having firmly demonstrated that no, they won't, and indeed it seeming like anyone who has tried it found that the experience is . . . underwhelming because Windows isn't well suited to the job, it becomes viable to turn the question around, and I find that somewhat gratifying. That's all I was getting at here.

I hate having to explain the joke.

"Director's Cut" gradually lost its meaning in movies, but I don't see how it could have ever had a meaning in computer games.

So, given the potential problems involved with running Windows 11, let's assume that Valve, or even somebody else, get Steam OS running for this thing. Turning around the question that got asked so much before the release of the Steam Deck but then disappeared without a trace after a while, how many people will rip out Windows on this thing and put in SteamOS (or maybe ChimeraOS)?

I wouldn't be surprised if they sell a bunch of them. The price may be surprisingly competitive since it's a really big company that can make plenty units and save on volume. And they have the sales channels that Valve does not have--one of the videos says it's gonna be at Best Buy.

Windows 11 will create some drawbacks, but on the other hand, it has to be admitted that with Windows and all that power, it will be plausible to play certain very popular multiplayer games with anticheat that don't work on the Deck.

But I see drawbacks.
I do wonder, with all this power and a smaller size, where are they going to fit a battery that can last more than 10 minutes?
My impression is that the Steam Deck's control system is better, with the touchpads and such--something that may be missed all the more if you have to deal with Windows 11's UI.
The price will be higher, no way around it.
Despite or perhaps even because of the "it's thinner and stuff" selling point, I suspect it may not have as good grip ergonomics for most hands.

I don't think it will kill the Deck or anything, but it may sell a lot of units. Many of them may be to people who wouldn't have bought a Deck, or to people rich enough to just get both, or to people in China or Australia, hello lack of worldwide Steam Deck distribution.

I wonder if this is why retro gaming has become so big. Things just work and are mostly without bugs, even then the glitches/bugs are often funny. Ohh and you can game in 4k on an old PC still
That and, I sometimes get this feeling like the biggest and newest are kind of . . . too much for me?
Like, if I just want to kick back for a few hours, and, you know, relax playing a game, and what I'm being served up is almost a commitment to a lifestyle or some goddamn thing, I find myself just going back to some of the old reliable. This is true even with strategy games--I can't count how often I've just played a simple evening of Master of Orion because I didn't feel like I quite had the energy to keep track of my Stellaris empire.
