The dev of "Marble It Up!" had intriguing words to say about the native vs Steam Play argument for a Linux version

Quoting: einherjarI don't like the behaviour of Linuxers complainig about a dev that wants to support Steamplay rather than native.

I always think: "Why don't you just shut up?!"

We are a minority, It does not make sense for a dev to put lots of time in a Linux build, lets thank them, if they support Linux.
But he's not supporting Linux. His game happens to work on Proton. We should be thanking the people who built Wine and DXVK and so forth. What are we supposed to thank him for?

Oh, really, you really can't complain about that too much now, as there are currently a good number of titles that allow you do full Newtonian flight, although many of these need to be played through Proton...
Among those that don't, seems worth mentioning Helium Rain.

I like Proton in theory. I have hopes that it reduces the barrier to switching to Linux. But I'm already on Linux, and I only have so much money to buy games, and there are lots of native games, more native games I'm interested in than I can buy (and way more than I can play). Games that play fine on Proton, probably, kind of go after native ones on the priority list.
So my purchasing dollars just haven't yet gotten applied to any non-native games I'd be playing with Proton. This game is not likely to be an exception, but no hard feelings, eh?

Thinking of waiting for space games, just yesterday I was looking at space games on Steam and I saw a page for something called "Lord of Rigel" which isn't out yet but is listing Linux as a platform for when it does. Seems to be a space 4X where you're a new young race in a galaxy dominated by opposing factions of elder races, kind of a Babylon 5 vibe. It says it will release in 2019, but I get the impression their schedule may already have seen some slippage so who knows.
Anyone know anything about this thing?

Just goes to show, Linux rules everywhere . . . except the desktop. Makes you wonder how long Microsoft can hold out against the overall trend.

Quoting: BoldosAlso, what I'm really looking for is an update to the way, how Sectors work.
They have changed something in that area, according to the video.
And they claim it's the first step towards something more substantial. No idea whether it will end up being an improvement or not though.

Looks interesting, although I might hold off a little while to see if that learning curve gets tapered a bit.

Initial support for installing Plug and Play drivers.
anyone who can explain what this means?
Likewise would love to know what this implies.
I'm no expert, but I'm old so I remember the term. So, back in the day, if you had peripherals for your computer you'd have to have a driver for it; peripherals often came with CDs that had a driver for you to install. The internet was barely a thing and didn't have that kind of useful stuff on it--or a little later, it did, somewhere, but actually finding it would be a massive pain. I believe plug-and-play was Windows' marketing term for their first attempt to have pre-built drivers for various stuff already in the OS so you could plug in a thing and have it supposedly Just Work. Something like that. This was back in the Windows 95/98/like that era.
