As to that second thing, no. I learned a thing or two about package management back in the 2000s. It was really annoying, as soon as they existed I moved to distros that did not make me do that. There is a finite amount of stuff I am capable of knowing a thing or two about, and a near infinite amount of stuff that would in some manner be useful to know, and I'm sorry but guts-details of operating systems is not in my top 1000. Computer people always think their particular area of knowledge is the one everyone really ought to know, but as far as I can tell there is no real basis for that belief.

Quoting: PyrateSo, first of all "user friendly" is a very vague term and I'm willing to agree that Fedora satisfies it. "as user friendly as Mint" is less vague, and I have never heard anyone claim Fedora satisfies that.Quoting: Purple Library GuyBut it doesn't seem to be available in any distros as user friendly as Mint. One of these days I'll give it another look.Fedora KDE is user friendly. Not having Nvidia drivers pre-installed ≠ not-user friendly. Windows comes without drivers pre-installed as well and people think that OS is user friendly. There's no harm in websearching "install nvidia drivers fedora Linux" and learning a thing or two about package management in the process. It's good practice long term.

Quoting: elmapulone solution that i saw that WILL cause backslash... was to charge to submit an issue, and refund if the issue was legitimate. Now this could work.
that would limit how much the "ai bros" can flood the repo with bad submissions, and help pay the costs of reviewing the submissions

Quoting: dpanterBan AI-generated everything. This would be a fine idea if they knew what was AI-generated without taking the time to go through and figure it out. But apparently nobody's saying their stuff is AI-generated.

Quoting: princecI will probably have to accept that Mint really wants me to use Cinnamon instead, which I suppose is no great hardship. What it says to me is that NVidia really want you to use AMD instead, but in this era of sky-high prices that's probably a significant hardship.

I'm interested in KDE, it seems really good (I tried it a couple of times long ago and didn't quite click with it, but it wasn't like I fundamentally disliked it, there were just things, little problems that are probably long gone). But it doesn't seem to be available in any distros as user friendly as Mint. One of these days I'll give it another look.

Quoting: gbudnyThat's interesting.Well, overall, it kind of is. But French speaking in Canada is really quite geographically concentrated--masses in Quebec which has a large population, a couple of other enclaves like the Acadians, pretty much none everywhere else. That said, in British Columbia where I live, school programs offering French immersion are quite popular . . . but North American language teaching just doesn't seem to be as effective as, say, European language teaching. I don't think most of those French immersion kids end up fluent in French once they've been out of school a few years.
I thought French was more popular in Canada because many native French-speaking people live there.

So far, so just like the dotcom crash. However, it is far bigger than the dotcom bubble, and the investment in it has involved a lot of clever dodgy financial shenanigans, which probably involve a lot of leverage. When these go south, the impact will be magnified and wreak havoc in balance sheets of a lot of apparently unrelated places, like the 2008 crash. The fallout will probably bring down crypto and may crash property again, and between all that a whole lot of financial institutions will be deeply vulnerable.

Quoting: LoftyI think it is very similar, actually . . . sort of to both of them combined. The dotcom crash happened when a whole bunch of high-flying internet startups, which had been handed a whole bunch of venture capitalist investment and whose stock prices had risen very high, turned out to have no prospects of making any money, at which point the stock prices crashed, the companies went bankrupt, and they never paid back the money. The big AI firms do have some revenue, but far, far less than their operating expenses, certainly nothing like enough to pay back their debts. When the optimistic "animal spirits" of the investors give way to the fear that maybe there might not be any more "greater fools" to flip the stock to, they will start to sell, stock prices will tank, and lenders will refuse to lend more money. The companies will go bankrupt, and they will never pay back the massive amounts of money that have been invested in them.Quoting: ZlopezLet's hope the bubble around AI will burst soon.Im not sure it's a bubble like the dot.com or 2008 housing crash. This is a different thing entirely. Im not sure a crash would occur in the same way.
