Minecraft Java modding is about to get a lot easier and more interesting

However, the cynic in me says this suggests that it's a step towards Mojang eventually retiring Minecraft Java and going all-in on the modern Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (which doesn't have Linux support).
But... but... Microsoft loves Linux, don't they?

How to play games from GOG and Epic Games on Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck
3 Jul 2025 at 11:33 am UTC

I don't like sharing my login credentials with 3rd party apps. Is it possible to use Heroic with GOG installers that I manually downloaded? Does it have any disadvantages, like missing auto-applied game fixes (UMU integration, or similar)?

A second question, is it possible to add the whole Heroic/Lutris UI to Steam instead of individual games, and still control it using gamepad, when I start it from the Steam Deck gaming mode?

Here's 29 games to claim from Prime Gaming for Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck

Do you think the extra Prime Day games added like Tomb Raider Remaster will really be available to the date published on their Prime Gaming profile page, e.g. Aug 1st for TRR? Because their announcement says:

tune in now through July 8 to claim the lead-up Prime Day deals
See:

I'm not a native speaker but it seems all of those games need to be claimed before July 8th, or will disappear?

GOG now ask for donations when you buy games

Different people, different tastes. I find the tip request non-controversial. GOG has a unique mission and deserves much better than almost 0% profit. That I find sad. It could be implemented better, I guess, by specifying some particular cause or project. Also, I would appreciate tips for developers, during purchase and especially after finishing the game, even if GOG took their cut. Currently there's no option to send some additional money their way, on any platform.

I buy all games that I can on GOG, because I believe that no DRM beats platform availability. Wine works well now. Realistically, we will most likely be able to play Windows games even 20 years from now, but not Linux games, due to frequent API breakage.

Yes, there are some DRM-free games even on Steam. But it's a completely different story. You have no information, no guarantee, it changes in time, and it takes a lot of time sometimes to verify and create a standalone copy of such games. I know because I do it. GOG is a paradise compared to it. I just download an installer and store it on my NAS. It's mine forever (sure, I have backups). Shut up and take my money.

DOOM (2016) gets a surprise release on GOG with a big discount

2. Considering how old the game is and how many times it has been bundled (e.g. on Fanatical) and highly discounted the current price is not impressive.
Looking at IsThereAnyDeal [1], the lowest discount price was €2, but mostly around €3.5 during the last year. And none of that was DRM-free. So I think the current GOG price is quite OK given the bonus offered (the DRM-free version). People who don't care about DRM probably already have it anyway.

Fanatical's Summer Sale 2024 has lots of discounts and big new game bundles

You can take the chance at 3 games for £4.99 and may end up with some top releases like Manor Lords, V Rising, Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT and others.
But likely you won't. Fanatical has great deals, but let's not promote gambling, please.

Lutris game manager v0.5.14 adds EA App integration, expanded Flatpak support

Perhaps a stupid question, but what's the purpose of adding your Steam games to Lutris? Steam already has Proton integration, so what's the benefit?
