Valve has been absolutely killing it with Proton and their support for WINE, in the words of Todd Howard, gaming on Linux: "It just works!"

The Steam Deck has demonstrated that Linux is not only a viable platform for gaming but also an awesome one. With nearly 18,000 games compatible (and counting!), the impact is nothing short of mind-blowing. Regular Proton updates continue to roll out, addressing bugs and expanding the library of playable games, showcasing the significant improvements made since the platform's inception.

A heartfelt appreciation goes to Valve for collaborating with WINE and sharing their Proton advancements, which greatly benefit the entire Linux community. Moreover, they have effectively kickstarted the handheld PC revolution. While competitors have their merits, the Steam Deck stands out as the cozy, no-nonsense champion in this space.

Cthulhu Keeper blends together Dungeon Keeper with Lovecraft

At long last, we have a Lovecraftian dungeon builder! As a fan who has poured countless hours into classics like Dungeon Keeper and enjoyed Dungeons 3 and 4, I can confidently say that this game is the perfect blend I’ve been eagerly anticipating.

What really stands out for me is the unique art style — it’s like stepping into a comic book!

Thank you for sharing this gem! Wishlisted!

Vulkan 1.4 on radv/gfx8+
The GFX8 (GCN3/GCN4) hardware: featuring models like the Radeon R9 285 (2014), R9 Fury X (2015), and RX 480/580/590 (2016/2017), is nearing a decade since its launch!
It's remarkable to see Mesa providing Vulkan 1.4 support for these older GPUs. Kudos to the Mesa team for their dedication to maintaining compatibility with legacy hardware while advancing modern APIs!

Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer Part 46: Bursting Bubbles

Thank you for this deep dive into retro Linux tinkering! I’m impressed by how you’ve balanced compatibility challenges and source RPM wizardry to resurrect games like Frozen Bubble and Cube. Leveraging source RPMs to bypass dependency issues is brilliant — it highlights just how much persistence (and creativity) it takes to keep legacy systems alive.

One technical question: When upgrading libraries like SDL from Red Hat 8.0, how do you manage potential conflicts with software that still relies on the older versions? Do you use symlinks or isolate environments, or is there a method to ensure system stability while updating?

Sticking with XFree86 and the ATI Rage 128 Pro is a nostalgic touch — I’ve heard that card was incredible for its time!

Borderlands 4 confirmed for release in September with a new trailer

I played a LOT of Borderlands 2 and it still is a very good game best played with friends. High replayability. Well-writen. Charming and memorable characters! Lots of content and incredible DLC... Then everything changed when the fire nation attacked Borderlands 3 was launched. IT. WAS. ROUGH. Play it with friends for the gunplay. Do something else whenever something story-related comes up, because the dialogue is un(sufferable)skippable. Hoping against hope they are doing something right with this one.

Cheers!

Keep Driving is a refreshing road trip management RPG

I thoroughly enjoyed my 8 hours of gameplay, but I did encounter a few issues that are more about personal preference, so take them with a grain of salt:

- The persistent grainy filter over everything felt a bit distracting. Initially, I thought it was a graphical artifact, but after watching some gameplay on YouTube, I realized that the compression doesn't showcase it well. It would be great to have an option to disable this filter for a clearer visual experience.

- While the gameplay loop can feel somewhat repetitive, the resource management and passenger interactions kept it engaging enough to maintain my interest.

- One feature that could enhance the experience is the ability to select a route and speed, and have the car move as a dynamic wallpaper. This would allow players to better appreciate the fantastic pixel art.

All in all, its a nice game full of potential!
