XCOM 2 is starting to look mighty interesting
11 Jan 2016 at 11:24 am UTC

This is the first game in a long time that I'm actually thinking of buying at release. I won't preorder though, I see absolutely no incentive to do so, and too much risk.
I'll probably wait for the first few Linux reviews to come out and then but it. Then again, I'd kind of like to play through X-Com Enemy Unknown again first; after having played X-Com 2 I probably won't go back to the first one again.

Oculus Rift VR headset will support Linux after release, looking like it's going to be pricey

Personally I have no interest at all in VR, I see it a bit like 3D movies which were hyped up a lot, but after having seen it I usually go out of my way to avoid it in cinemas etc.
Besides the price, I have two major problems with VR: motion sickness, and the problem with doing other things while gaming, be it sipping a cup of coffee, checking my phone or just looking out the window once in a while. Maybe I'm just too casual a gamer for VR! ;-)
Sure, it could be fun to try it once but I would never buy one for myself.

The open source Itch games store app needs translators

I just looked at it and saw that no one was doing the Danish translation. Something for me to do today, I guess :-)

EDIT: Or maybe not, I never got the registration completion email... Oh well, their loss.

Steam is having a whopper of a sale right now

Quoting: Stupendous Mana few days ago I bought Shadow of Mordor and Cities Skylines from GMG
GMG have a few versions of SoM (plus GOTY etc), with keys from either Warners and or Feral. The latter did the Linux port so only buying that one will get any money to them, the platform you used to buy or activate the key doesn't matter. GMG list the developer and publisher, and also the source which I assume is who they got the keys from (often the publisher but maybe another distributor in some cases).

It looks like GMG are being misleading here and may have tricked you. One of those is from Feral [External Link] and says it runs on Mac but they also did the port to Linux. Another is from Warners [External Link] and says it runs on Mac or Linux but they only published the Windows version. The only one on sale at the moment is also from Warners [External Link].

It wouldn't be the first time that GMG have done something a bit dodgy [External Link].
Well, that's a bummer, seem like Feral will be missing out on the money from SoM then. I guess I'll have to rethink buying from GMG again in the future.

Thanks for the clarification!

Quoting: Stupendous Man... I bought Shadow of Mordor and Cities Skylines from GMG for about 9€ each (they are Linux versions, I checked!)...
How did you check and ensure this?
It was listed as supported platform in the requirements section and had the Linux logo. I understand this as they are selling Linux keys too. I hope I'm not wrong :-(

On the Steam sale so far I've only bought Grid Autosport, but a few days ago I bought Shadow of Mordor and Cities Skylines from GMG for about 9€ each (they are Linux versions, I checked!), and Trine 3 from the Humble Store as well as a heavily discounted DLC for Europa Universalis 4.
By the way, I bought them all from my android phone but activated the codes on Linux, I sure hope that doesn't mean the money won't go to the Linux devs??? If it somehow went to the Windows devs that would be just miserable (and make absolutely no sense, I haven't touched a Windows machine for years outside of work).

Quoting: edddeduckferal[quote=LinasYes, you can.

Although it is not a casual game, so unless your friends are already good at racing games, they may have a hard time. I prefer DiRT Showdown for playing with my friends, because it is much more arcade and easier to get hang of, even though I think Grid Autosport is much better when playing by yourself.

You can always play the (free) Destruction Derby DLC :) No skill needed ;)
Thanks Linas and Edddeduckferal! I'll definitely pick this game up soon. Especially since Eurotruck Sim 2 no longer works well on my PC (suddenly it's lagging) I'm desperately craving SOMETHING to drive.

I'm waiting for a sale too. I do want to pick this game up, but racing games are far from my favourite and just something I want to spend 20 minutes with once in a while. Hence the full price is too much for me, but if I can pick it up at -75% some day I definitely will.

Oh, one question: does anyone know if you can play split-screen mutliplayer? It would be a fun game to play locally with some friends.

The new XCOM 2 trailer has me extremely excited for the Linux port

Do mods work in linux? I was under the impression they didn't, especially the Long War mod. However, I see the link you posted is for the Linux version, so I'll give it a try.
And yeah, I played ironman on my first play through, though on normal difficulty.
