Very interested, but as @Creak I have Arch and the open source Radeon drivers and an older graphicscard, so I'll wait a year or two :)

Shadow Of Mordor Wins GDC Game Of The Year, Linux Version Due This Spring

Actually I do hope they use OpenGL 3.3 but nothing more. Else I can't buy, nor play on Linux. :) I couldn't care less for graphics.

So excited too... I also hope that Feral brings a few of the games they already ported to Mac, to Linux too. Like Batman and Tomb Raider

Contagion, Cooperative Survival Horror FPS Is Still Planned For Linux

Quoting: GuestValve had their Dev days awhile back, where they practically gave everyone the knowledge and tools to publish a game on Linux. Not to mention that Contagion uses the Source engine, which should be one of the easiest to port with Valve holding their hand all the way. I agree with everyone else, platitudes and promises have zero substance in this industry without something we can sink our teeth into every so often to show actual progress.
While I agree with the rest it really depends on the version of Source they've used initially.

Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015
8 Mar 2015 at 8:12 pm UTC

Oh, and regarding the survey.. something still smells here.

I had to reinstall a copy of Windows for a university course where the game I program has to be able to run on Windows (although it uses OpenGL).

I also installed Steam, to be able to chat with some friends while programming. And guess what, that's one week and I got the survey twice, while under Linux I got it once in all those many months -.-

I do hope tho that the survey somehow incorporates the steam-id... not in a problematic way (think privacy) but so that it's cleaned.

Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015

Actually Microsoft has joined (again) the Khronos Group ;) Just for WebGL for now, but who knows.
I wouldn't put it past them to actually see the benefits.

I guess their whole "vendor-lock in" won't be working many more years. They have to become more open and go more in the direction of a service provider than a software manufacturer. But that's just my thoughts.

Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015

The final note is the important part. Also, Linux gaming has just begun (in "AAA" terms) and I think and hope that the coming years will change a bit.

On a sidenote: I also hope that Microsoft will drop DX after its 12th iteration completely and start embracing Vulkan. I mean they could benefit as well, without losing too much.

Quoting: MaelraneWell, I get it. Some people just switch to Linux for the bucks, not for its openness.
You don't get it at all if you think money and idealism are the only valid reasons one could have for using Linux.
Then enlighten me! What other reasons are there for *solely* using Linux and not having a dual-boot system?
Revivng laptops from 1998 seems to kinda impossible using Windows unless you're going for win98. Other than that.. mostly whatever Apple says to advertise their products - just works, no viruses, ease of use which translates into almost no time spent in maintaining my family's and my girlfriend's computers. My mother doesn't care if she uses Windows or Linux and certainly doesn't care if it is "free" or "free".
Yes, but (I've not made this clear I guess, sorry) I was referring to the context of gaming. You would not play "today's" games with a 1998 laptop, no matter the operating system.

I - as a hardcore linux advocate - see no benefit in using linux for the purpose of gaming alone. Not today, not any time soon (although I'm hyped as you're).
Really, if gaming was that important to me I'd still have dual-bootet during the last year.
What I can think of right now is that you don't have to wonder if newer version of Direct3D is coming to your OS or not. I still remember visiting the Tropico5 Steam forums on Day1 as I had some minor problems with getting the game to actually run and there were an awful lot of threads demanding refunds and generally being rather verbally aggressive as the game wasn't compatible with XP and Vista... So I guess that's an advantage in terms of gaming?
Depends. I think the average gamer doesn't care for that, he'll always switch to the next Windows version.

Quoting: MaelraneCome on, now it's stupid bashing.
You’re obviously a Microsoft fanboy trolling for the fun of it, so I’ll just patiently wait for Liam to implement user blocking features…
Oo. What have I done to receive such harsh words? In case you wonder: I've not been using windows in over a year, until last week.

"Bashing" proprietary technology by a certain graphics-card manufacturer is now being the same as being a Microsoft fanboy trolling around? I guess it's really time for me to leave here. Have a wonderful Sunday everybody!
