InnerSpace from PolyKnight Games & Aspyr Media launches with day-1 Linux support, some thoughts

Quoting: BeamboomSo TOTALLY purchased. Installing as I type.
This is what indies are for. Looks absolutely stunning, and the looks of it reminds me of something that could have come from Thatgamecompany, the devs who are behind the fantastic little gems Flow, Flower and Journey on the PS3.
We thought so too. I started chasing these guys at PAX South last year. I literally floated to their tiny booth, staring at the game screen, barely looking down to talk to who would soon be my partners in crime for the next 12 months. Its just that beautiful.

Getting it out on Linux day 1 was a really big deal for us. We are so thankful you dig it!

Early Exclusive: Civilization VI to release February 9th for Linux with a discount, NVIDIA only for now

Quoting: rkfgUhh, what's up with that non-fully-crossplatform multiplayer? I understand if there are issues with deterministic RTS engines, math could be slightly different on each platform and in the end the butterfly effect causes heavy desyncs. But in a turn-based strategy?.. Weird. The Steam page doesn't have a "Crossplatfom multiplayer" badge, however, in the system requirements there's a footnote "Additional Notes: NOTICE: It is possible for Mac and PC to become out of sync during updates or patches. Within this short time period, Mac users will only be able to play other Mac users." So, the Mac users can play with the Windows users and Linux users can play only with Mac users. What would happen then if a Mac user hosts a game and then both Linux and Windows users connect? Something's wrong here.
Apologies, our wording for the Blog post makes it sound like it will only be compatible with Mac. We fully intend to have cross-platform multiplayer between all platforms, but that didnt make it for launch.

Quoting: Mountain ManThe real question is, is Civ VI worth buying in its current state? Or is it like the last two iterations that really weren't worth playing until after at least the first expansion?
I think that is what is making VI the biggest launch in franchise history. The game starts with much of what V had with all the DLC and expansions added in...and we all know Civ keeps getting better :D

Quoting: LinasBut the real question is where can I get such cutesy penguin myself? :)
They are on Amazon for $2...which is the crazy part...some Linux fan sent 1 for every person in the company (75). $150 just to show support for Civ VI Linux 0.0

Quoting: Purple Library GuyHuh. I wonder why they want so badly to see a substandard version on Linux, and who's stopping them. ;)
(I mean, they say they want "that" to happen)
Dangit...grammer fail:/ I've edited to fix that

Thats a distinct possibility :)

Quoting: AspyrBlairSorry for being harsh, but stating this much earlier would have been fine for me.
Or did I miss it?

"intel/AMD not supported" could also mean: In principle it would be possible for us
to optimize the port for AMD/intel but compared to NVidia it is just too much work to pay out.
And to be honest, I thought it was exactly this...

I bought many games ported or released to Linux just for the sake
of supporting the developers/porters/platform. However, recently I'm waiting for
tests and user feedback in particular related to AMD systems.
I'm happy to be your customer again if the games work fine with AMD. :)
You havent missed it, and your totally valid for being upset. We've been really quiet about it...and so has AMD. The truth is, we are not driver devs and the issues are beyond our knowledge base (notice the game runs flawlessly on AMD with our OGL code on OSX). We need their help.

Quoting: subI don't care what game it is.

As long as they're not fixing that bloody BL2 port to run on a Phenom II + HD 7950 (and similar configs),
I won't buy any other game from them. At least give feedback on the matter. What's stopping you from fixing it? Maybe there is a good reason. But just assuming it's AMD's fault would be cheap.

I'm playing the original windows version which runs fantastic on the same system!

These companies make it difficult to completely switch to Linux.
It's nobody's fault, but the fix will require AMD's help. The ball is in their court now.

The good news? This title will have full GPU support across NVIDIA/AMD/Intel

Quoting: DeformalWhat version of OpenGL does game have? Old OGL 2.1 or 4.0?
Lots of different versions actually, with the highest being 4.0 yes.
How is it determined which version of OpenGL is used if you don't mind me asking?
Depends on the call within the code and how it relates to the DX codebase we are working from.
