Latest Steam Deck update will warn you if an Xbox controller needs upgrading

thankfully steam controller 2 is around the corner, so i will be looking to that as my next controller.

wtf is firmware update in xbox controller? how and why it breaks any compatibility?

xbox controller should be a braindead simple device with design that has practically no changes for three decades, it is a dualshock 1 with dpad and left stick swapped. what firmware updates can it possible have?

i know what these updates do. they are made for the sole purpose of breaking compatibility with non-windows machines. although microsoft only shoot themselves in the foot with this decision.

at this point whatever they do just makes everyone hate them more.

Yeah, as people say, it should be some "GOG Foundation", even if the only thing it would do, is looking more legit for people. I don't understand how it works. If you want to preserve a game on GOG, buy that specific game, and GOG should use their share cut to shove an old game into a dosbox or whatever compatibility layer it runs under, and patch for widescreen resolution. If modders can do it for free, GOG can pull it off, using their store revenue, right? It is not like they do a full modern port or a remaster of every game they preserve.

Epic and Steam banned it but HORSES is out now on other stores

i think postal 2 is a cool and fun game, but this one is too much for me. there are horror movies similar to horses, with overly graphical and disgusting imagery, with violence for the sake of showing it. perhaps this sub-genre is not popular, because people don't see any point in this beside shocking their audience. i hope that developers of this game had at least some kind of artistic intent in this stuff, but on this topic I agree with my friend, who is a fan of horror genre, that very few creators of horror understand horror. it is not about disgusting imagery, or jump scares, or shocking content, it is about building up fear, tension, suspense in viewers. I can't feel any of that in the trailer, it is just gross. Well, whatever, I am not calling for its ban, the stores already have 18+ age check.

would be cool if it evolved from slow-paced horror gameplay into a brutal non-stop shooter towards the end of its single player campaign

there are no credible awards, except steam awards. i may not agree with results of steam awards, but at least it is backed by mass voting, unlike tga where literally who few decide on what game wins or even gets nominated

Of course dbrand is doing a Steam Machine Companion Cube

any kind of name would be better than Steam Machine LOL ... aka an iron.
Someone in Valve likes to name products in a fashion of steam/gas/water/hydraulic engineering. Even the company name is VALVe.
Other names:
Pressure Vessel for Valve's container system for files access isolation.
Steampowered - the website name.
Pipeline - a project for training inexperienced developers.

Anti-cheat will still be one of the biggest problems for the new Steam Machine

I'd say it is the opposite. Steam Machine will be the killer of kernel level anticheats. Of course, there will be stupid managers that will lock their games out of millions of steam decks and steam machines, but many will reconsider. Percentage of linux and steam os systems doesn't matter, when it is millions in absolute numbers.

3 years into ai bubble, literally zero improvements and usefulness, yet some crazy managers still hype on it.

On one hand I am annoyed, that developers once again ban Linux, on another hand I am having deja vu, because this game looks like another clone of a clone of a clone with fortnite/overwatch graphics?

Really, how much value has been lost? Another game-as-service battle royale competitive PvP. After playing a bunch of such games, are there players that really think "ah yeah this is something interesting and worth my time"?
