not realiable at all.
on guilty gear, you can play the game, but the experience is incomplete, you cant watch the anime-ish introl or any other video from the game, because its on wmv format (and valve dont want pay royalites nor can convert then selves (they dont have the rights to change the game))
now this may look like an small issue for someone who dont care about animes but those persons arent the target audience for this game and this issue may affect other games in other unexpected areas.
an video being used as cutscene is an expected use, but some games use video as texture, for example, tombraider use it as an texture for the fire, so in some games you may have an completely buggy/incomplete experience due to this issue.
also, in some game the cut scenes are important to tell the story so you may know whats going on story-wise or how to advance in the game.
i hate to say that, but if you want to send an report and call it an platinum game, you NEED to play the game elsewhere (playstation, xbox, windows, dont matter ) to make sure you know all the features from the game and all of then are working fine.
hell you may need to discovery all the secrets from the game and make sure they are all working.
that is why an Q/A from valve or the game developer is important.
just imagine the "tri-force from ocarina of time" being possible to get all those years, but the problem was that people where playing the game on an bad emulator and never realized.
btw who remember back in the days with so many hoax about the tri-force being possible to get?

plus its the only way to play good games on the god (aside from a few android ports, all android have is gambling games) so in an certain way, all switch games are "exclusives" they are on mobility

Quoting: slaapliedjenintendo has just the most famous exclusives and some of the most famous franchises ever.Quoting: elmapulPeople who wanted Steam Machines? :PQuoting: slaapliedjeyou forgot that nintendo have exclusive games.Quoting: elmapulthe game is running on linux? you forgot to mention that... some times an emulator isnt running as fast on linux as it is on windows.Spec wise, the Atari VCS isn't far off the PS4 (assuming the specs are legit). Will it compete with the PS4/5? Probably not because Nutari (as some have not so fondly referred to them as) doesn't have oodles of money like Sony does. But the AMD hardware they're using is more powerful than say a Switch is. In fact the Switch isn't all that powerful at all, the only thing that makes it cool is the form factor (portable plus dockable). It's an nVidia Tegra X1, which was released in 2015.
in some cases the linux build dont even compile, sigh.

but you know what would be cool? if we forget stupid projects like atari vcs that dont have any chance to compete against the likes of ps4(and 5), xbox one(and scarlet) and nintendo switch(or whetever they come up after) and instead focus on making sure that linux is the best platform in terms of breaking exclusivity (funding projects like this, more than the windows folks do, making sure we are their priority)
and so does sony.
by the time atari launch their console, sony will anounce ps5 and everybody will save money for it.
i know its not trying to compete with ms,sony and nintendo, but the question is, who gonna buy it? aside from linux fanboys and people who fell nostalgy for atari?
Switch has very few exclusives. I have a Switch, but none of the exclusives have really kept my attention. Breath of the Wild was decent, but I'm so used to other open world games, that it was infuriating to me that you can't actually craft items. I stopped playing it a long while ago.
But if you'd noticed what I said, it's going to be the software library that matters. The funny thing is everyone keeps saying that it's nothing more than a raspberry pi that costs too much, and that's not quite true. But yeah if there is no software for it, who cares? Or if there is no software that you can't just run on a cheap Linux box, who cares. Only thing it has going for it above that is probably the size, it still is pretty difficult to build your own PC that is console sized and not have severe heat issues, or bad performance.

Quoting: x_wingyou dont need visual studio or anything having support to run on linux, you just need it to compile for linux.Quoting: GuestThey mention visual studio in their software tools. I don't know how to take this. I am still not sure these games will run natively on Debian or trough a proton-like tool. And even if they do, it wouldn't mean they would be released to Linux desktop players for fears of high support costs for little revenue.Visual Studio Code has Linux support. Never used it and probably, I never will 'cause vim is all you need!

Quoting: DesumNever going to support this crap. It's the ultimate DRM and walled garden rolled into one. What's the point of gaming on Linux when you don't even have the game running on somebody else's computer anyway?i can agree on that, but the point is not just you, if more people migrate to linux since the gaming barrier break due to stadia, then we will have more native games, wine will evolve faster and so on...

2)google is trying to enter the gaming market, so even without valve it would do that.
3)google is trying to enter the desktop operating systens market (chromeOS) and he need games to do that

Quoting: subImho without Valve putting serious money into Linux gaming this wouldn't be even possible.1)google has a lot of money, those companies develop for platforms with 0 users, almost no know how on how those platforms work, they learn an brand new programing language and develop games for it in 4 years or so, when there is money involved, they will do anything.
Hard to believe without all the awareness of Linux building up over the last few years and all the efforts that went into the infrastructure, Google would not have convinced a single AAA developer to go that route.

Quoting: ElectricPrismI hope Cyberpunk 2077 offers their Vulkan layer on Windows, at least then Proton could run it really well on Linux out of box.
Quoting: Sir_DiealotNo interest in the lineup or Stadia, but maybe Cyberpunk 2077 will get a proper Linux release. Yeah right, as if.i dont think so, they canceled witcher 3 and after years without giving an reason they said it was the bad reception that they got on witcher 2 because it was using an translation layer.

Valve add additional titles to the Steam Play Whitelist

but i had to figure out it was made on renpy (quite easy once i know that renpy exists) then install it from the developers site not from the repo (the repo version is borkend and outdated, the developer explicitly said they dont support this means of distribution)

Quoting: rustybroomhandleAgain it seems to be a wide range of underlying tech. I think internal testing and subsequent whitelisting have more to do with ticking compatibility boxes than anything else.actually now that i read that, it make sense, it sounds like what i had to do to make an windows-only renpy game work: just open it as if its a project file and click on run.
Gorogoa is a Java game, for example. It's also one of the most clever puzzle games I have ever seen.
