Half-Life Legacy arrives December 12 but you'll need Proton on Linux due to Native Linux issues

I'm dubious about HL Legacy, I'm not sure what it's value prop is. From what I can see the biggest benefits are workshop support and achievements. Workshop support is a relatively minor benefit since RTSL exists [External Link] and installing mods is so easy.

If it used Xash3D-fwgs and was kept up to date then it would be much more interesting to me. In any case, I'll check it out when it drops and see what's up.

p.s: HL1 first -> HL1 expansions if you really dug the original -> HL2 -> Episodes -> Alyx -> Black Mesa

Survivor-like bullet heavens are going first-person POSTAL with POSTAL: Bullet Paradise

I'm pretty keen for this. POSTAL: Brain Damaged is absolutely fantastic so I'm not adverse to spin offs (even if it's by a different dev). I've also played a decent amount of Vampire Hunters [External Link] and have enjoyed that quite a bit so I know the FPS bullet heaven genre can work.

Playnite may get a Linux version during 2026 as the creator plans a move to Linux

Playnite on Linux would be great since there's probably going to be more users that move from Windows to Linux that would like to have this program available because of the many features that they use on it.
I was in that boat when I first switched to linux. It was disappointing to not have access to Playnite anymore so this is great news. I'm curious how it'll work with Heroic, it'd be nice if Heroic didn't have to open to launch a game.

The classic Unreal Tournament gets a big upgrade with the v469e patch from OldUnreal

Great to see another UT99 patch. A couple of years ago when I switched over to linux UT99 deathmatch was my multiplayer mainstay. I'd definitely recommend it but unless you're quite experienced with arena fps it may be worth playing with some mates. Otherwise, you'll quickly learn to get good with hitting sniper headshots while dodging.

Warhammer Survivors announced as a licensed Vampire Survivors game

This could be pretty sick. I do like that it is it's own game rather than DLC - hopefully that means it will include some deeper changes.

Why are there so many different Proton versions? Proton 8, Proton 9, Experimental, GE-Proton

Great write up, very useful for new users. It could be worth adding proton-cachyos [External Link] given how popular CachyOS is now.

The Siege Update for Dwarf Fortress has arrived

Hell yeah - DF is so sick. I'm eagerly awaiting the magic and myth updates.

Guess it's time to start a new fort and have some FUN.

GOG Preservation Program expands with Splinter Cell, Hitman and more + Autumn Sale is on

The offline installers are fine-ish, but in some cases, they can lag behind the game versions available in Galaxy (or alternate clients like Heroic, obviously).
Interesting, I didn't know this.

Btw, for anyone looking to backup their offline installers definitely check out lgogdownloader [External Link].

Vampire Survivors just keeps on giving with a free Balatro DLC, online co-op and more free content
29 Oct 2025 at 6:46 pm UTC

I love Balatro and this looks pretty sweet though I feel very overwhelmed by the amount of content in the base game already. 16 new characters may as well be 100000 new characters. I've got a few of the DLCs and I've barely touched those yet.

I'm gonna hold out for the next update and see if there's a better way to visualize and progress through the content

GOG Preservation Program expands with Splinter Cell, Hitman and more + Autumn Sale is on

IMO, GOG's preservation efforts are kinda lacking. Having games be playable is fine, but having them play *well* is another, and GOG hasn't done much on that front.
I agree, their preservation is typically an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff but I feel it's far, far better than nothing. They do add enhancements to some games which you can see here [External Link] under 'See what we improved'. I'm sure if they had more capital they would be able to invest in larger improvements for a broader selection of games.

I do really wish they would embrace Linux more. I know it also is a cost but I'd love to see a Linux Galaxy client.
