For anyone else curious here's the trailer for Courtroom Chaos [External Link]. As expected, it looks like crap and there's no way it would work as smoothly in practice. It's not novel in any way and the only enjoyment I could squeeze out of it would be to give Snoop really messed up cases to arbitrate.

Spoiler, click me

Also, Snoop guessed it was a dog cake and he was coincidentally right? This is how they market the game?

KDE Plasma 6.5 is out now with a number of highly-requested features

The changes are great and all but my only concern is VRR. It's been annoyingly broken since I've started using Linux a few years ago. If I have 'Adaptive Sync' enabled and I turn one of my monitors off and back on it doesn't display anything at all. I have to restart, change VRR or logout and back in to fix it. It's frustrating to have to enable and disable VRR manually depending on which game I'm playing.

This game is right up my alley! It's a love letter to certain FPS games and cribs a lot of their mechanics and tropes. I expected it be more like Wolf3D but it's far more like RTCW. As soon as I saw the hud with the stamina bar I recognized it as being from RTCW.

The maps themselves are what are inspired by Wolf3D. They look to be built on a block/grid system much like Wolf3D [External Link]. The Unity shaders and block geometry make the game look very much like Nightmare Reaper in some ways.

The combat feels really satisfying, I'm a big fan of precise aim based games and the headshot and crouch aim mechanics work great. I mean, if a game offers a dot crosshair and has headshot hitsounds I presume the dev knows what's up. If I could specify custom hitsounds or even just choose the Quake 3 or CPMA hitsounds I'd be stoked.

The world has a surprising amount of depth and effort put into it. The fact that there are notes to read (more RTCW) with flavour text is an appreciated touch.

I can't say much for the story so far but it seems largely perfunctory but again, I'm still very early in the game. I love the voice acting of the hobo - his lines are funny and he delivers them well. I wonder if the VA for the hobo is the dev? I feel like this is a single dev game and you can clearly feel his proverbial voice throughout the game.

I'm genuinely surprised that this game is free. If you like FPS games you should try it out. If you like 2000s FPS games you should definitely check it out.

Making retro DOS gaming simple - the standalone DOSBox Pure Unleashed is out now

Running games and ISOs from within zip files is the biggest feature for me. I wonder if you could just drag and drop eXoDOS game zips with pure unleashed? If that worked AND it mounted the game ISO in the zip then it'd be an A+++ fork.

Many developers leave GZDoom due to leader conflicts and fork it into UZDoom

What does the "U" stand for
It stands for 'Ultimate', as in 'Ultimate ZDoom'.

I checked and UZDoom doesn't have a package on the AUR. I'll try building one but I have no experience with makepkg or anything so I have nfi how it'll go.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown gets a first demo
13 Oct 2025 at 6:35 pm UTC

I've watching through all of Star Trek, for the first time, in chronological order with my gf for the last handful of years and we're up to S04 of Voyager so we're pumped for the game. Lack of VO could definitely be a hindrance but if there are myriad choices and paths to progress it could fade become less of a bother. As for the music, I hope it's good enough otherwise it'd be good if wasn't too difficult to mod in custom tracks.

The gameplay sounds like an interesting combination of gameplay modes, even interactive fiction can be quite fun when the choices are impactful. Reigns [External Link] is a good example of this sort of gameplay being executed well.

Blood: Refreshed Supply announced from Nightdive Studios

100% should have been a free update for existing owners. It feels bad to skip a ND release, especially since this port is built off the original source code, but I'm not paying that steep price tag for an update.

Deus Ex Remastered announced and arrives in February 2026

I was excited when I saw the announcement but woof.. this looks bad. The high poly human models look really wrong, especially when contrasted with the UE1 environments. IMO they should have kept to the more stylized art style of the original. I'll be interested to see if they make any changes gameplay-wise but I doubt I'll pick this up anytime soon (especially when Revision exists).
