The new Steam Library Beta is officially out for you to try

Ugh, hard dislike over here, alas. I've always used list view in Library as my main view, and I really miss it in the new beta version. Also currently the thing eats up CPU like nobody's business, and feels really sluggish (though I'd expect *that* at least to get patched up at some point). Grump.

Guess I'll switch away from the Beta version for now; hopefully by the time this goes Actually Live there'll be something like a List view.

Nanotale - Typing Chronicles confirmed for Linux at the full release

Yay! Epistory was fantastic; I'm always ready for more unique typing games. For some reason. Honestly not sure why I find 'em so enjoyable, but Epistory was a great take on the mechanic.

Google reveal more games with the latest Stadia Connect, including Cyberpunk 2077

Definitely zero interest in actually using Stadia over here, but like the rest of y'all I'm hoping that it'll end up leading to more "official" native ports getting released. There's obviously a world of difference between coding for one specific well-defined platform (Stadia) than it is to put something out on a public storefront, where you'll have to contend with users attempting to run your game on all manner of distros and hardware, but I can't imagine that it won't lower the bar for companies to think, "huh, maybe we should do a little more polish and release this officially."

Valve has launched "Steam Labs", a place where Valve will show off new experiments

Give me a call when they try the "use humans to curate the store so it's not brimming with garbage constantly" experiment, that's the one that I'm still really pining for.

Supergiant Games now have Bastion, Transistor and Pyre up on itch.io

I wish I enjoyed Pyre but I just couldn't get past the inherent sportsiness of it, alas. Perhaps I should give it another go one of these days, 'cause I still love Bastion and Transistor.

Facepunch Studios have given an update on the future of Rust for Linux, issues with "third parties"

Quoting: KimyrielleDevelopers who plan to release on platforms without making sure that any middleware they want to use is working on their target platforms will never cease to amuse me. Maybe "Facepalm Studios" would be a more apt name for them?
In their defense, it does sound an awful lot like their middleware did have Linux support but just ended up doing so badly. I definitely have some sympathy for them on this one, because it's an unpleasant situation to be in. Think about all the folks who were hopping on UE4 for its crossplatform functionality but then running up against perpetual problems on the Linux side, etc. If the middleware/vendors seem initially good but then turn out to be not so great, remediation can be difficult, especially if the vast majority of your userbase doesn't have the problems.

(I have no particular dog in this race, as I've never even tried out Rust.)

Casual puzzle game 'Snakebird Primer' is out with Linux support

Quoting: liamdaweHmm odd, can't test myself as I don't own it, could be a Mesa bug?
Your guess is as good as (or probably better than) mine! I'm probably due for some updates, could give that a try. Other games (including the original Snakebird) run fine on here, though.

Quoting: liamdaweTry this fix and see if it helps.
Nope, doesn't do the trick! (I hadn't tried until now 'cause I'm on Mesa/Intel instead of nVidia, though of course it didn't hurt to check.)

Quoting: liamdaweA similar issue I saw in another game, if you re-name the Steam API file and put it where it wants it, it should launch. Should be easy for the dev to fix.
Heh, hello over here as well! Yeah, in this case it's some files that are flat-out missing, though fortunately you can find 'em in the original Snakebird instal folder. I agree that it'll be simple enough for a dev to fix, and anyone with the original Snakebird (or possibly also any other Mono-based game) would have the files on-hand to fix right away anyway.

Unfortunately I'm also having some other graphical corruption issues right after finishing the first level:

Much as I don't mind having an easier Snakebird to play through, just that first little tutorial level itself is unlikely to hold my interest. :) I have faith it'll get fixed.

Ooh, I am thrilled!

Having some difficulty launching the app, though: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1014140/discussions/0/1797403972733719945/ [External Link] - I assume that'll get sorted eventually. Anyone have any ideas about that?
