But your US focus confused me; isn't Opera owned by the Chinese now?(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(company [External Link]

Quoting: Wolfgang RoseThese days I always checkout 'who owns' a particular software. I checked out 'Opera Norway' and noted that the company was floated on the NASDAQ, ergo it will have lots of American investors and will likely cater to US tastes and business norms. In my experience as a developer/tester/project manager, I know most US firms will make all the noises to comply with GDPR, but will often breech intentionally as 'part of business'. In contrast Vivaldi is still privately held (not floated) - so right now at least is still within GDPR.Props for the CachyOS and Vivaldi love: what Opera started Vivaldi very much has improved upon.
I'm not being anti-US, I'm just taking precautions against a prevalent business culture that is actively hostile towards its customers. At the moment the only US tools I'm using are Steam (as I have such a large back-catalogue) and Lutris. I'd opt for Heroic Launcher instead, but it is just not as flexible as Lutris. I use CachyOS which is a Deutsch distribution based on Canadian Arch.
Still hoping to see GOG.com bring Galaxy to Linux, then I can remove Lutris from the equation.

Manjaro Linux looks like it's in trouble with the release of the "Manjaro 2.0 Manifesto"

Very sad to hear. I hope they can find a way forward.
I have Cachy on my main PC and couldn't be happier, but I have Manjaro installed on my (low-spec) laptop. That's only there because Cachy's installer kept noping out, and Manjaro was the first one that worked and I thought I may as well give it a go. But yeah, I never hear anything about Manjaro any more, and I guess this explains why.
May be time to revisit a Cachy install.

KDE Plasma 6.6 released with improved accessibility, new on-screen keyboard and lots more

Yeah, this was worth the wait. The improvements to animation smoothness were immediately noticeable on my 144Mhz monitor, even before I'd rebooted. That alone has made a big difference: it can hold it's head up high with the likes of Hyprland now.

Epic Games Store saw a 57% increase in purchases for third-party PC games in 2025

Well, it's 57% over last year but one data point of improvement isn't enough to suggest a trend. Looking at the flow of previous years it's only 13% above their previous peak...which then dropped again in both of the following years.
It will be interesting to see if the proposed improvements and offering Fortnite Freebies to devs to hawk with their games will have any significant impacts.

GOG did an AMA and here's some highlights - like how they'll continue using generative AI

It's been nice having a Store out there with strong principles. DRM-Free was a very good message to have out there against the likes of Ubisoft trying to shackle gamers with ridiculous authorisation restrictions and installed malware.
But you can't use GenerativeAI and still call yourself principled. It puts the lie to every piece of loving game curation if you're using a tool built on the industrial-scale theft of content creators hard work, and depriving artists of future work.
