Because it's super easy to toggle the system compositor in current KWin, Alt-Shift F12. Could have been any non-composited desktop at this point in time, that won't be an issue when the HMD display can be removed from the desktop with display acquisition Vulkan WSI in-progress extensions.

how is this going to work with games like Garrys mod where servers run a collection of mods. It would be shitty if you had to buy 50 different mods every time the server changes map/game mode...

I wonder how they track free to play games like TF2/dota...

For example, if you play TF2 on Windows for 20 hours but don't buy anything, and then months later switch to Linux and rack up 900 hours while spending a couple of hundred on hats, would that show up as Windows sales?
