System Shock remake heads to Kickstarter, Linux is the first stretch-goal

I backed it just because I want it to exist.

Even if a Linux version comes to be, I doubt my machine can run it. I refuse to use proprietary drivers any more, and only use Intel as a result.

Maybe in 5 years Intel will catch up enough for me to play this, but meh. I want this to be.
Is it a gamble? YEP! That's what kickstarter is: gambling.

I'm willing to roll the dice here. This game matters, and should be more widely experienced.

Want to play Morrowind natively on Linux using OpenMW? Well it's on sale on GOG

Quoting: ZekThePenguinCan't wait till we see OpenMW run perfectly, complete with mods!
I've only had minor issues, and as of the most recent release the only thing I've had an issue with is one mod using fake specularity maps making things go wonky, so I had to go back to vanilla rocks for some areas.

EDIT: And I had more issues with the vanilla engine (under Wine).

I don't remember the last crash I had for a release version of OpenMW.

What have you been playing on Linux recently and what do you think about it?

Well over 800 hours of Borderlands 2 (some of that in Wine due to crashes for the native version on some missions).
Recently put 26hrs into Pharaonic, some of that grinding for fun (the gameplay itself is engaging, so I don't mind just going around easier areas and wrecking house).
Ziggurat, Eldritch, Heavy Bullets, Barony (see a pattern forming there?).
Most of the way through a 4th or 5th run at Victor Vran. I can hardly contain myself waiting for the Motorhead (insert umlauts where they should be, I can't be bothered right now :P ).

I've tested all the available Saints Row games. They're all playable, and I plan to put time into all 3.

I've been meaning to put more time into 5089.

ALL of this is on hold because I got a PS4 and I've been neck-deep in Bloodborne.

Two Worlds Epic Edition openworld action RPG now on Linux, uses Wine

Tested the beta. Ran just fine on Intel Skylake Mesa drivers.

It's a terrible game, but it runs well.

Got it cheap a couple years ago. Yech.
YECH.

It's just terrible. The only option for success is to cheese the awful, broken mechanics. The animations are terrible. Running it widescreen stretches the models. The acting is laughable.

Watch ProJared's video on this game instead of playing it, unless you love schlock.

Some thoughts on Shadwen, Frozenbyte's new stealth game available for Linux

What a surprise. a Frozenbyte game is severe rough-around-the-edges on Linux...

Free to play action platformer MMO StarBreak released on Steam with Linux support

Quoting: liamdaweI stand by what I said, for people who like exploring with friends, with action and picking up items (all the stuff an MMO is supposed to do better) and so on they are better off checking the games i suggested.

Not exactly the same games, quite obviously, but far better choices.
Again, you bring up 'exploring'. This game doesn't have that. It's has tedious spamming at enemies until you get to the boss.
"...with friends..." Well, this is basically 'with randos'.
"...with action and picking up items..." D:
The number of games that _don't_ have that is exceedingly small. O-o

This is comparing apples and oranges. Actually, it's apples and durian. Technically, this is a side-scrolling multiplayer game. It's just not a good one.

The things you say Terraria and Starbound offer isn't incorrect. StarBreak doesn't offer them, though.

It's just a big mess of an action platformer with randos running around with you. It's also so unbalanced that you start out with 10+ people in a dungeon and by the end there's maybe 3.

Seriously, the comparison makes no sense.

This game isn't very good, but there's no similarity to Terraria and Starbound aside from "more than one person can play at the same time' and 'side-scrolling'.

You've... not played much of this game.

I still say you're comparing Minetest and Morrowind. They're both open world 3D games that take place outdoors and underground and are mostly exploration. So similar! (???)

I'm being facetious, but really. This game isn't an inferior alternative to Terraria or Starbound. It's just... inferior.

Quoting: TheGZeusI'm confused about the Terraria and Starbound comparisons...

Those are basically 2D Minecraft-alikes.

This is a grindy MMO crossed with some kind of Amiga-era platformer.

"They side-scroll and have combat" are the only similarities I can see.
They are 2d sidescrolling action platformers that have exploration and crafting as well as multiplayer. This game has all but the crafting part. It's easy to compare it with.
You can use that same logic to compare Elder Scrolls Online and Minecraft.
They're both 3D games with leveling, crafting, and combat.

"Multiplayer sandbox" and "MMO" are vastly different things, and if you can't dig and build that's like removing leveling from an RPG. That's a _massive_ change.

Honstly, it's like someone reviewing Quake and recommending Morrowind instead.
Yeah, they're both 3D and have combat and a story, but... Um... No.

Also: Exploration? Every level I've tried in StarBreak (like 5 or so, admittedly) has been 100% linear.

I really don't know that you've gotten an accurate picture of this game.

I wouldn't recommend it either, because it seems to amount to throwing your character at enemies and dying until you can level up and unlock things to do it again.
That doesn't describe StarBound or Terraria, though.
