HELLDIVERS 2 will soon actually require a PlayStation Network account

Is it right to dislike/reject PSN linking? Sure!
Is it new? No! You've been PSN linking since before launch, just if you had no valid PSN ID linked, it gave you a temporary one and disabled cross-play. That is literally all they are disabling.

Quoting: WYWNot new, and not news. The game has been on PSN since day zero, and a lot of the early days "can't login/got booted" issues were due to the PSN/Steam gateway and scaling that for the unexpectedly high player count.Quoting: Pyratewhat's so bad about this move other than 4 extra minutes of setup? The 4 minutes of setup and the data mining aside this creates a new point of failure.
If the PSN network goes down, or if your PSN account is stolen or lost (or banned) you lose the ability to login and play the game.

Quoting: mitridasOh, I have a Steam Deck LCD for projects and a Steam Deck OLED that I do my gaming on. Not quite willing to mail one to you, but I'd be happy to get you remote access and a bit of shared presence, schedules permitting.Quoting: tfkDesktop hacking effect?Yes, I've pushed an update so you should be able to see it the next time you start the game.
The same update (0.520) also adds support to Steam Input (allowing gamepad controls on Linux too), except that I have only been able to turn it on via Steamworks for the full version of the game (unreleased) but not on the playtest.
Looks like there's some bug/missing feature in the playtest config system on Valve side :(
So for now we're out of luck, unless Valve's support comes back to me with a solution.

Maybe it's time to take back "artisanal". Just waded in, hadn't heard of this game/engine before, I have a bunch of different systems here that I'll give it a shot on. Top end is an all-AMD desktop at 4K, bottom end would be my UM780 XTX or a few different Steam Decks.
Thank you for supporting the OS I support. I'll return the favor.

World of Goo 2 launches in May on the Epic Store - but Linux support from their website

If anyone knows anyone at Valve, we should really look into a competitor program to Epic's Free Money. I'd imagine a small quantity of cash and some cushy Steam treatment, in exchange for "no other storefronts" and maybe "supports Win+Mac+Lin, gets Deck Verified" would do some Real Good Stuff for the Linux world.
The HDMI Forum rejected AMD's open source HDMI 2.1 implementation

Just bought *another* 7900XTX to work around my issues, since I have two high res displays that need DP to work right under Linux, plus a DP-only HMD (Valve Index). Hopefully the new card with 3DP+1HDMI will get me working, and I'll be able to find a buyer for a slightly used 7900 XTX Nitro+ (2DP+2HDMI) without taking a major bath on cost.

Quoting: TheRiddickI have a 7900XTX and a 4K/144Hz panel on my wall. Under Windows, it runs 4K, 144Hz, 4:4:4, freesync and HDR. Under Arch Linux with newest Mesa (24.0.2), it maxes out at 4K, 120Hz, 4:2:0 color and sorta-not-really-HDR (the 4:2:0 subsampling and DSC make it look pretty terrible). I'm in the Github discussion, and it looks like AMD won't be able to do anything.Quoting: maddovrAre you sure you're getting 10-bit and 4:4:4 subsampling?I don't have the card. I just checked under WAYLAND when I did and the display information app which I've forgotten the name of, said 10-bit colorspace!

Meh. Kickstarted it, played it when it was genuinely free, as soon as my lifetime "name in the game" (never got that confirmed/saw it either) version turned in to "base game, buy DLC pls" I dropped it. Never looked back. This is how *not* to maintain/sell your games.

I don’t know that I’d be so quick to give kudos to Nvidia. They still limit Linux clients to 1080p/60Hz, which doesn’t sound that bad till you have a nice 4K/144Hz monitor and go back to dual booting for competitive games.
Worst part is that ChromeOS and Android both get unrestricted profiles, it’s just Desktop Linux getting the 1080p/60 shaft.

Ubisoft making a return to Steam with Assassin's Creed Valhalla on December 6th

Assassin's Creed ended with III. The main story writer left and it shows, all the metaplot just dried up and blew away. All the later games are just stabbing-simulator with more weapons/outfits/etc added periodically. The new settings/times are neat, and I own them all, but I resent them.
Uplay has been running fine on my Deck, though, so this should be a net win.

My current little wish-list for Steam Deck upgrades

Quoting: ShabbyXDoes steam deck make it easy to switch accounts? If not, that would be my number one request. So me and my wife could share one deck without getting our games/progress/achievements mixed up (not that it matters much, but still nice to feel like it's your own user playing, not borrowing the other one's account)The existing/launch Deck UI supports this brilliantly. You select your pfp in the top right, and one of the very last options is "change user". Once the second/third/etc users sign in, you get a quick select at boot/restart, and can choose to have a login pin.

Quoting: MayeulCAh, I thought the game was being made free :)I backed it, and I'm just glad the flood of paid DLCs has stopped (for now). I was really disappointed to see a title I paid quite a lot for turned over to another party who promptly demanded money from me.
I've had it since EA, but never really took time to play it.
