The point is: most (every?) other environments had it, because it's a basic feature for usability and accessibility. Yes it's free, but doesn't mean I have to like it or use it...I use KDE, because it has it and other things I prefer. Nothing wrong with pointing out how silly I find it when a major project misses such a thing.

I'll expand why it's dumb: it's such an incredibly basic feature for both usability and accessibility, that they said it themselves - was requested for years. It's dumb because it took so long.

Yes, 15 bucks (euro) is a lot, but, as also mentioned, Paradox tends to make discounts very quick, so that one can expect to get the DLC with 50% within a 2-year-period. An additional argument can be made if you translate the price into game time. While some don't have any problem to spend 40 EUR/$/£ for a game with 25 h playtime and little replayability, in Paradox games you can easily get replayability for another 50 - 100 hours per DLC/story expansion, and here it is a problem.

Personally, I don't really think that argument works in this case. You're not going to specifically spend a huge amount more time in Stellaris because of this DLC. Base the price value on what it specifically offers, and it's really not that much.

If you have been collecting EPIC games, it's an okay-ish bundle not great but okay.
If you have been collecting EPIC + Most all good value bundles for a while then you're almost paying sale prices for the stuff your missing. Which the issue with paying near sale prices on bundled games is you can not return them if you don't like them, so unless you know you're going to like them you're better off just paying the couple extra dollars for return protection. Actually taking the time to returning 1 or 2 games out of 4 during a big normal sale can literally save you more money than buying a bundle where you're only save a few dollars per game.

Or you want the games, pay "sales prices" for them and support some charity organizations with a bundle!

Because that's what these are about. If you're just looking for the cheapest prices, you're not the targeted audience.

That and grabbing free games on Epic, does absolutely nothing to support Linux and Steam Deck gaming. Additionally, there's no doubt many like me not really paying much attention at all to free games from Epic. While the Heroic Launcher is great, much prefer to stick with Steam and get bundles like this.

Liam, please be careful about what EG means as multi-platform crossplay and what you think it should mean.

Because I see that for Sweeney & Co. the term "platform" defines the content delivery environment (EGS, Steam, GOG, Windows Store, individual launchers, etc.) used to purchase/get titles from and identify the owner in multiplayers, and how the middleware tied with that specific environment plays nice with other authentication/identification methods or launchers. Basically, who "owns" the login credentials.

While for you the term "platform" means Windows, MacOS, Linux-based OS'es, consoles, etc. so if I'm on Ubuntu while my buddy uses Win11 we can still play together (your example of Borderlands 2 having different, incompatible versions for Lin and Win).

The way "crossplay" is interpreted and intended varies a lot between the two meanings. In particular, Epic Games never ever cared adding Linux in the crossplay pool as much as cares about grafting Steam market share by fair or foul means.

I’m not entirely sure what exactly you’re getting at here? EOS has full Linux support. It’s entirely separate to the Epic Store, which yes does not support Linux.

You might want to change the head-line as "Free and Open Source" usually refers to FOSS, and this isn't FOSS at all. Even the assets are under a restrictive NC license.

I disagree. Code under a FOSS license is still FOSS. This also applies to the assets, we say happily things like OpenMW and OpenRA are FOSS but they also need proprietary assets. One part not being FOSS doesn’t mean the part that is FOSS suddenly isn’t.
