I've sent an email to Valve today to chase up a chance of a Steam Deck for us here.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleSo, press embargo for the Steam Deck lifts on Monday, I believe. Valve has been sending out review units, but it seems to be mostly so obnoxious "influencer" types. Kinda wish they'd have sent out to more Linux people.Only "Previews" are allowed on Monday. Main embargo is February 25 as far as I know for the actual release.

Quoting: x_wing@Liam, you may want to take a look to the heatsink or thermal paste of your CPU, you're hitting over 100C from time to time.Good catch, missed that as was focusing on performance. Should be all sorted now, upped some fans, added another fan and cleared out some vents. :)

Quoting: WorMzyYou're right. It was a timezone issue. I won't go into all the details but I should have permanently solved it now. To also help, charts will now generate on the 2nd of each month just to be sure.Quoting: Liam DaweThat issue is now fixed. Somehow the cron got mixed up, and there we two entries for November. I've adjusted one to be October, as it was right at the start of November (so it should have been October's data). All looking good now.I think it's happened again with January's data showing as February.

Your best bet is just to use the PPA still I believe: https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa [External Link]

Quoting: SacredsinI have a GTX1060 and Im currently on 495 driver. Any idea how to install this newer driver? I previously used a PPA, and if I try to install the driver from Nvidias site I get some error that I have xserver running etc. The guide from https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2021/debian-ubuntu-linux-mint-nvidia-guide/ [External Link] seems a little too involved for me. Im on Linux Mint 20.3 with xanmod custom kernel. Thanks in advance. That might be one of the worst looking guides I've ever seen, far too overcomplicating things.

Quoting: gradyvuckovicSurprised there's no "Steam Deck Sale" planned. Maybe they will wait a year, make sure everyone who wants a Deck, has one, before they do the sale. They're probably keeping that stuff more under wraps, especially in case of any further delay eh?

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoWhat I am trying to say is that Proton, the blood in the veins of the SteamDeck, is not ready. We can safely say the number by release will be quite long. This is the initial trickle of games coming in, part of Valve testing the procedures work correctly. Over the next two weeks you can be guaranteed it will grow.
This will be a megafail if SteamDeck can not run properly most of the games in the Steam catalogue.
Remember the Steam Machines fiasco.
Nobody will buy this for just 100 or 200 supported games.
Dota 2 on Linux gets upgraded to use the newer Steam runtime container

Quoting: hardpenguinGood catch. Yep, it's because Steam Play is the system for compatibility layers (Proton, Steam Runtime Container, Boxtron, Luxtorpeda etc). It's the same system that Steam Play Proton also uses.Oh wow, because of this my Dota 2 client shows "Runs with Steam Play" in the library now.

I'm aware, it still wouldn't be Deck Verified if the videos don't play. If Valve did Deck Verify a game where the videos don't work, then it's silly because it's going against the very idea of it working out of the box.

Quoting: ShabbyXWell this is not the first time I see you get defensive. Again, I hope you consider my feedback as given with care.Once again, it's not being "defensive" to moderate a community and ensure people know what is and isn't acceptable.
Quoting: ShabbyXyou'd need to put it in the community rulesOur Rules:
Quoting: Our Actual Rules- Talking about zealotry, we are Gaming On Linux and not "Gaming on Linux only native titles or GTFO". If you be a nuisance when talking about Steam Play / Proton, DOSBox, Wine, Cloud Gaming, Emulation and so on, we will give warnings and take further action if needed. Allow people to enjoy what they want, don't be a gate keeper. We don't need constant comments about how you won't buy a game if it's not native, as just one example.People who do just repeatedly come to complain about us covering Proton will just be removed. I don't see a need to continue this discussion in the comments of an article talking about a specific game. If you want to debate rules, proton vs native and such - there's a forum, discord, telegram, irc, matrix and more.
- Discord is about to require age verification for everyone
- KDE Linux gets performance improvements, new default apps and goes all-in on Flatpak
- New Proton Experimental update adds controller support to more launchers on Linux / SteamOS
- GE-Proton 10-30 released with fixes for Arknights Endfield and the EA app
- Prefixer is a modern alternative to Protontricks that's faster and simpler
