Answering with some thoughts of my own :)
Quoting: elmapul0)any one trust valve to make an game console again after the steam machines flop? anyone would trust then with your money?Well, Steam Machines failed for so many reasons. If this is a device built by Valve, and there's only one (or 1-2 configs?). I can see it doing a lot better with the state of Linux now.
Quoting: elmapul1)the market for this type of thing is already flooded, gpd win etc.Flooded? Mmmm, I wouldn't say so. There's a few devices, but not many of them are really that high quality, with a big vendor backing them.
Quoting: elmapul4)people will just install windows on it anyway to get more games, so why bother. That does bring up a good point but if Valve only supported some form of Linux on it, more might keep it that way. Either way, it would be a boost to Linux gaming if the main way to use it is with let's say SteamOS 3.0.
Quoting: elmapul-1)it will tough to compete against the likes of switch for traditional gamers and android/iOS for people who dont know any better. As I mentioned in a prev comment, given the success of other devices, I wouldn't just count the idea out. As long as this time around, Valve market it correctly and properly.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPOn the other hand, I don't really know if there is a market for such a handheld.Well, thinking on it, look at how popular other handhelds like GPD Win has been and the excitement around things like the Alienware Concept UFO prototype and others. There's probably a good market for it, probably more so than VR I would say honestly.

Quoting: MalImho Stellaris is in good shape now (not exactly a given with pdx games).Yeah, Stellaris has come a seriously long way, it's a very different game to when it was released.

Quoting: DerpFoxWell, I just got this thanks to this article.Might be an idea to ask for help then and post your game logs to our Tech Support forum as it worked fine here.
The game is very bugged on linux, game breaking bugged. Can't even start the first chapter. Tried with proton the game just crash. I don't recommend it right now.

Oh and on the subscription versus buying to own argument. The Steam agreement is clear you don't own Steam games.

Quoting: GrazenThere’s already a subscription service on Steam and it’s a great value. EA Play gives you access to about 50-60 games and costs about $30 per year. It also gives you a 10% discount on new game purchases and 10 hours of free trial gameplay on most new games. It’s a great service. It would seem that Valve’s model is to allow other publishers to provide their own subscriptions. That is mentioned briefly in the article, as is the CKII sub. The talking point is about Valve doing one.

Quoting: jensValve likely makes quite a bit. It's vastly different to talking about games, as Valve gets that 30% from EVERYTHING purchased by Linux users and going by the stats there's at least 1,023,400 monthly active Linux players on Steam.Quoting: LanzLet's be honest, they aren't making money from their work on Linux/Proton, and I doubt they ever will.I wouldn't be so sure about this. It is not like they are working with 500 people on the Linux support. I could imagine that the number of sold titles due to Proton, I mean the 30% cut of that, covers quite a bit of what Valve invests into Linux land..
That said, I haven't done the math, I could be far off..

Quoting: life_is_pleachdeveloped together with ValveAs far as I've seen, Valve has not been directly involved? All the work so far was Google upgrading their Vulkan pass-through stuff to get it into the state where it performs well for games. Unless I missed something big?
