Seems that the Linux version of Supraland will not be heading to GOG (updated)

I think this has gone as far as it needs to go, especially as it is now on GOG.

If you wish to continue debating DRM, feel free to use the forum.

A guide to Steam Play Proton, Valve's tech for playing Windows games on Linux / Steam Deck

Quoting: BrisseNice guide. Small nitpick: The definition of the gold rating is "runs perfectly after tweaks", so there is a good chance these require manual intervention as well.
Sure, I've done a tiny adjustment to the wording based on my own experiences with gold titles and based on a bunch I looked up. A lot of the time, games are Gold due to old reports, not enough new reports, people using older drivers and so on.

Quoting: BeamboomAre there ever any reason to run anything but the latest version of Steam Play on any game, ever?
Plenty, there's often regressions. DXVK has had issues a few times, for example. Proton has also messed up multiplayer networking before and so on. Basically newer isn't always better right away.

Ubuntu LTS releases (and so derivatives too) to get updated NVIDIA drivers without PPAs

Quoting: NanobangCall me cynical, and paint me jade, but coming so close on the heels of their recent 32 bit lib faux pas, this feels a lot like a bone being tossed to gamers---a welcome, meaty bone, yes, but a bone nonetheless.
This has been in the works for a while, from what I understand. Some of the people from Canonical mentioned a few times on Twitter in the past, a long time before any of this 32bit stuff happened that they did plan something like this

Isn't that what this news is all about?
Yes.

Physics-based building game "Besiege" just had a pretty big update, new levels and plenty of bug fixes

Quoting: MichaelDNFinally an update it has been almost a year with no word. I usually don't buy Early Access games but besiege was so fun that I was fine paying full price for the first early release, i'm 100+ hours in already.

I just wish Early Access meant the developers are releasing the game in a year or two not FIVE years and counting..
I think there's too many misconceptions about Early Access and what it was supposed to be. Originally, it was supposed to be about games being developed but gradually more and more developers used it as extra testing of practically complete games. This has muddied the waters and caused so many people to believe that a few years is a long time, for a game to be developed it's not.

Average user does not mind using Steam client straight up.
I don't know what you're getting at by that, sounds like you missed the point entirely.

Quoting: TheBardDRM-Free on Steam does exist! When a game is DRM-Free on Steam, you don't need to login to play. You can even use steamcmd to install games without the client. Indeed it's a bit more complex that downloading a file from a website but actually it's more convenient because stemcmd deal with lots of stuff. When the download is complete, you can backup the game directly the way you want, move it where you want and play without Steam. I've tested it myself several times! Steam is not a DRM but Steam offer a DRM solution for the devs who want it. It's up to the devs to make their game DRM-Free or not on Steam.
I don't think saying users can learn steamcmd is a reasonable argument personally, for those who prefer fully DRM-free.
Something is not easy to use, so it isn't DRM-free? That's your argument?
I'm all for Steam adding a simple "Download as installer/archive" button or something along those lines to DRM-free games in their store, but not having that button doesn't make them games with DRM.

Quoting: TheBardHonestly, where's the problem about Supraland not being on GOG? The game is available DRM-Free on a store with first-class Linux support. That's already a very good situation.
Just imagine if this was the Epic Store, with the same argument (ignore no Linux support on Epic for a moment).

Quoting: TheBardBesides, if we look at the comments on GoL about GOG: few years ago there was a vast majority of comments showing there love for GOG. But recently, most comments I see about GOG are negative: no galaxy, no game updates, no multiplayer on Linux, no update patch, etc. There are still GOG enthouasts of course, but it's safe to imagine that many Linux users who used to support GOG actively gave up. It is well known that Linux market share is around 0.9% on Steam but do we know how much it is on GOG?
I wouldn't equate the small loud minority with how the majority feel about GOG.

Note: I say this as someone who primarily buys from Steam, I'm just thinking outside my own personal box here.

From my point of view, there is an overreaction regarding the DRM issue, probably due to a lack of knowledge from the dev on how to ship a game using another platform out of Steam.
I don't agree there is any overreaction, nor is anything being taken personally. This is no different than any other website pointing out issues with a developer/publisher. I think it's important to note, so people can make informed decisions themselves.

So, it's definitely pointless to keep bringing discord quotes.
"keep" -> One extra was posted in the comments, about us being "fake news" which I thought was quite amusing. I also don't think it's pointless, as it shows the developer is ridiculously naive and doesn't take anything that has been said seriously, an attitude I don't agree with.
