Quoting: g000hWatched a couple of the game videos and I don't find it especially appealing, as it has too much visual dazzle for my liking. I find there is a tendency for modern games to put more and more dazzling/distracting visual effects into their content. It's okay up to a point, but once it goes beyond that point I feel that it detracts from the game play and becomes unappealing due to the eye-strain and headaches that it induces. There's a number of things you can turn off though, it has quite a lot of interface and visual settings.

I still to this day remain very happy with Linux gaming, with over 1.6K games in my Steam library. Plenty of games I return to constantly like Rocket League, now with Underlords too (thanks again Valve), Dying Light and so many more.

Quoting: GuestThere was a time (a few years ago :-) when I was buying ALL games being released on Linux. Now I kinda suspect this isn't the case anymore ;-)I was the same, every new game I picked it up as long as it wasn't basically bargain bin trash. That didn't last long once Steam came to Linux though.
Am I the only one who was already quite happy with the state of Linux gaming at the time of the first HiB ? Spent so much time on World of Goo, Aquaria, Amnesia, Jamestown etc. :-)

Quoting: GuestI guess their sales are decreasing because the number of available games (incl. Proton...) is growing extremely fast and the number of Linux gamers must be rising at a modest pace.Yes, likely part of the reason. Steam Play opened up a much bigger library for a lot of people, spreading an already smaller market thinner. I'm still hopeful it will be worth it in the end, if it helps more people switch, it should eventually balance out one way or another.
With the Valve Index about to launch and be delivered, Valve held a little private launch party with speeches

Quoting: BOYSSSSSIf I was smart I might have tried that :PQuoting: liamdaweDid you try to remove the noise with audacity? I used it a few times for this purpose with great results.Quoting: NanobangAlso, Liam, thank you for taking the time and effort to transcribe Gaben's speech. Transcription, especially of less than stellar audio, is very not-at-all fun under the best of circumstances. Your going the extra mile for we readers is very, very appreciated! :)Thanks for the kind words, turning it up enough to hear it properly was quite painful on the ears with all the banging and background noise. I thought people would appreciate it though :)

Quoting: GuestI wanted to buy a few games on itch but they don’t include VAT in the displayed price, so a game on a -25% sale gets then +20% VAT and the deal is not so interesting anymore… Ended up not buying anything. Maybe they should display the real price like litteraly every other store does. And also let people wishlist games and buy several at the same time.Yeah, I agree. It's caught me out a few times, would be nice if they stored my address too when it asks me because of VATMOSS stuff...

As for your other bits, well, Vulkan is needed for a big part of Proton remember, so that makes no sense. SDL is also used a lot outside of Linux FYI.

Quoting: GuestIt's been almost a year since Proton came out (August 2018).A few things to note, Proton has been "out" for nearly a year, but it's still very much hidden on Steam. Unless you're going looking for it, you don't really know it exists. It still has a lot of work ahead of it right now, it's early days. If anyone seriously expected a shift in behaviour in less than a year, they're not being realistic in any way.
Where is this fabled growth in market share? Did we even reach 1% of Steam users?
The only thing Proton is doing is strengthening the position of Direct X as the only viable APIs in PC games development, no need for SDL, Vulkan and so on... there is Proton after all!

Oh, "and videos dont work" - yeah, that's not exactly the experience people are after is it. If something doesn't work, it's another nail in the coffin for people sticking around. Think it through a little.

rage 2 had a lot of borked at the beginning, but after a few hours valve fixed it and now it would be platinum
layers of fear 2 has silver, but the only thing you need to do is "-onethread" in launch options and videos dont work

Quoting: Sir_DiealotOr there are fewer games for Linux released now that SteamPlay is around. Who can say with certainty? Historical data and statistics probably can. Who is going to dig in?Well, out of the developers in that Valve post, 4/20 previously did a Linux game. Goes up to 5 if you count Avalanche Studios, with Mad Max ported externally by Feral.
