Quoting: WendigoAnd this is exactly the reason why I would never buy a Windows game even if it has platinum status for Proton.
There is just no guarantee that the game will still work in a few weeks / months / years and if you get issues in the future you are left in the rain since the game was never made to be run on Linux.
Yet people on Reddit and Steam sent colourful words my way, when I told them any single update could break a game in Steam Play.

Yet here we are and now today I'm seeing reports that GTA5 online is also now entirely broken...

Quoting: XpanderThere are actually more platinum ones as some people report issues with really outdated drivers or have distros that doesn't have file description limits increased to use esync.
Well, hopefully ProtonDB will apply some limits to what entries can do to a rating when they're using rather outdated specs.
or just take GOLD+PLATINUM

DOOM only has GOLD and its whitelisted
all wolfenstein also just have GOLD

i bought some gold games like prey, ryse and batman and they all work OOTB

btw do you know when its posible to install the windows version even if there is a native port?
both metro just suck on my machine and i wanna try them with proton.
or dead island wont start and i also wanna try with proton

Quoting: einherjarIf I look at the things like exclusives in Epic Store, Discord, Ubisoft heading away from Steam and so on, I don't think that there will be a lot of AAA Titles on Steam....
So proton perhaps won't bring as AAA Titles, because they don't appear on Steam :-(
I am not aware that Epic had an interesting exclusive other than Fortnite itself, which is that current hype game without the store would probably collapse inside 5 mins.

Ubi - either I am missing something, or they still sell their titles on Steam, they just require a link to UPlay to work.

The only larger publishers I am aware of that consistently refuse to sell on Steam are EA and Blizz, and those have been doing so for a long time now.
Ubisoft recently announced that The Division 2 is skipping Steam in favour of the Epic Store, is what they mean.

A trend that will increase as Epic Games throw money around and act like the really good guy. I expect Valve to make multiple interesting moves this year.

Quoting: riusmaSteam Play is the new "500+ [incremental] Linux games natively available on Steam" headline! ^_^
Which may be more interesting and valuable to some, since it will include a lot of AAA titles.

Unity have changed their terms of service, which has essentially blocked SpatialOS and streaming services

Quoting: RFSharpeAn interesting sidelight:

I have used MultiPlay servers for over five years for both communication (Mumble) and game servers. I got a notification from MultiPlay last Thursday (1/3/2019) that the servers that I purchase will be shut down on the 28th of February 2019. The email had this link to the MultiPlay Blog:

https://multiplay.com/2019/01/03/important-information-regarding-multiplays-community-server-offering/ [External Link]

There are two takeaways that I get from this post:
1. They have decided to "close our community server offering",
2. Their new business model will focus on "providing services direct to game creators and a better experience for gamers"

I am having a hard time sorting this all out, but my first thought is that MultiPlay (now owned by Unity) is gearing up to be gaming platform for Unity based games.
I was wondering how long it would be before something like that happened, it was obvious once Unity purchased them that's the way it would be going.

I now just use https://linuxgsm.com/ [External Link] on a cheap cloud unit if I want to host a game server.

Update: From what the developer told me, they don't currently have a Linux testing machine and when they last tested it had issues they weren't confident showing off in a Linux demo yet.

Grab a free copy of 'A Story About My Uncle' in the Humble Store Winter Sale that's now live

Quoting: stretch611As much as I like a good sale.... Isn't this a bit overkill?

The Steam Sale just ended a week ago, so did GOG's Winter Sale, AND Humble... What's left to buy that wasn't on sale a week ago? Also, who has money in the budget left for more?
Well, the free game is free so *shrugs*

The thing is, everyone is different. This one is after the festive period and possibly after people got paid again, the timing here might suit a lot of people more than the dates on other sales.

As always, what's bad for one is good for another. For some people, the addition of helping a charity in a small way is also a factor, you can argue they could donate directly (valid point) but it's an additional thing on top of getting something you want.

On top of that again, for Humble Monthly subs they get additional money off and so on.
