It has a very strict license for commercial usage.
They're not stopping people using it in their own games. Reading their license and the entire point of the sample, they're letting developers use it.

The next big Steam sale dates have been leaked, as usual

Quoting: lucinosI propose one simple rule:

Do not buy any game that the developer is not actively testing it on linux. It is not that hard to just install a free linux distro and just run your game. If developers can be at least convinced to at least test their builds on linux that would be a huge win for linux as a platform.
Point: What if the key to making this happen is showing these devs that penguins are buying and playing their games?

Counterpoint: 1-2% might not be sufficient to change any company's mind

Counter-counterpoint: But maybe being able to play Windows games will help the 1-2% grow?

Counter-counter-counterpoint: If I were really witty, I'd have something clever here.
This was one of my points before I believe, I'm hoping such a feature will help the Linux base at least on Steam to grow. If more people do end up playing Windows games through Steam Play developers will see it and start some conversations.

Platforms : Windows (client and server) and Linux (server only)

I've no doubt that will change, it's not finished and it's using a Unity beta so it's entirely possible they're waiting on some Linux-specific issues to be fixed.

Perhaps one of these will be a good time to check out some cheap games from Windows-only developers for use in Steam Play?
Ultra yuck. Very ultra yuck.
I second that. That's not to say I don't have windows only games (and some keys still laying around that I might try). I just don't buy them just because of steamplay.
I was waiting for the first person to be against it, this argument has been done many times already though. I think people know my own stance: I will buy games I want to play, but only once they are sufficiently old enough that a port is likely not happening.

The Steam Beta Client has some updates to the runtime for games that needs testing

Quoting: FireBurnAny idea what they've changed? New packages? Updated packages?

I have to run this command so I use the native packages on my machine to prevent segfaults

find ~/.steam/root/ \( -name "libgcc_s.so*" -o -name "libstdc++.so*" -o -name "libxcb*.so*" -o -name "libvulkan.so*" \) -print -delete
I'm waiting to hear back about it, will update when I know.

The most common reasons together for not publishing on more than one platform is splitting revenue since you generally need to hit thresholds for payments (which might be quite hard with itch having a tiny reach) on top of the additional work required managing two communities.
