Quoting: EgonautWho cares about performance improvements on Quake Champions, if that game doesn't even work because of error 103 [External Link] :D

Proton still has a lot of bugs to fix, but it is on a good way, I'm looking forward to what games will work early next year.
It's kinda nuts to think how far it will come in a year from now.

The Humble Day of the Devs Bundle 2018 is out with some good Linux games

Quoting: LinasI keep hearing about these key stealing bots. Does anyone have any references to how they actually work? Is that even a thing?
Yes, people even released software to help people scrape Twitter, Reddit etc for keys. It's why our own key giveaway feature is locked behind accounts + accounts at least a day old to prevent it.

I find it somewhat amusing you just compared it to one single cup of takeout coffee...yet this is a bad deal? Whut.

Edit: Not saying the price is good or bad myself, but I found the comparison a bit silly.

Quoting: GustyGhostIt's been a while since this reminder was posted. I am certain that we skipped September. Liam, you don't automate this?
It is automated, but I don't always put it out.

Quoting: wvstolzingIn my fathomless ignorance, I look at the github repo [External Link]; and all I'm able to gather is that it's a kind of IO card. What does that say about the BIOS in these systems, though? Could someone knowledgeable take a look and comment?
Here's what Phoronix wrote about it [External Link] recently:
Quoting: PhoronixThey confirmed they are not designing their own motherboard but working on "pulling proprietary functionality off the mainboard and onto a custom, open source (hardware and firmware) daughter board."
As far as I understand it, they seem to be trying to go around proprietary hardware (SATA controllers); it appears as if this will not be a truly "free and open" computer, but instead a computer with specifications laid open as far as they can.

In my opinion, "open source computers" would require moving away from x86 hardware, and that is only likely to happen after The Year of the Linux Desktop.
That is actually mentioned in the article, which is from a reply to me on Twitter.

Quoting: sergeDoes proton count as Wine gaming ?
It's not supposed to no, since Proton is supposed to be mainly a Steam thing, which is why we will be including a Steam Play question eventually when we can get the wording and options correct.

Oh, for crying out loud. This is how Paradox does things and this argument has been hashed out dozens of times. Isn't it about time people bloody got used to it?
Yeah, I grow tired of this too but we do have to remember we have thousands of users registered. Most people don't look at older articles.

People buy the new Call of Duty/Battlefield/x sequel all the time, why is it any different to picking up an expansion to extend a game you already love, with even more to love? By doing so, you get to spend even more time with something you enjoy, the developers continue to work on it with free content on top of expansion and it ends up as a win for both sides.
