Techland See Sense On Dying Light Modding & There's Hope For The Linux Version

Quoting: metcardWhich safe zones can't you secure?
Every safe zone I've tried to secure seems to have been secured.
I've only played about 6 hours though.
I think the issues with the game are to do with cpu optimisations, as toggling graphic settings barely affects performance for me, and my cpu appears to only run at 50% at most.
Can't secure any non-mission safe-zones, and I'm not alone in this. You go in, close the door, turn power on...nothing happens, and no zombies inside either.

Quoting: omer666Well at least they're updating it, it's not an abandoned piece of garbage.
I think you've gotten the wrong impression of this game, perhaps from the (as usual) extremely vocal folk that have a hard time. And I'm not blaming Liam! Just because I can play the game (and Witcher 2, and Metro...) on my trusty GTX670 doesn't mean everyone has the same experience. Actually, seriously Liam, you're really, really unlucky with this stuff!

But as Feist notes above, (assuming you have a rig that runs this nicely) this game is superb fun, well worth the money. The only bug outstanding for me now is the safe-zones. If they fixed that, I suspect that my experience on this game would be better than many Windows owners, since it's enjoyably smooth in a SteamOS session and luckily I find the "running blur" only a mild annoyance.

Okay, okay, I'm being kind. The running blur is a travesty of epic proportions. But it doesn't make me sick, unlike many, going by the Steam forums. So there's that.

Anyway, no it's not perfect. Yes, it should have waited until these bugs were ironed out before releasing. True, some of the bugs are unique to Linux.

But I'm still glad I bought it. It's fun. And scary. And satisfying. And epic. In fact, satisfyingly epic, in a scary yet fun way.
The blur effect is utterly horrible, i seriously hope they are properly looking into the Linux issues as they have been saying, but I don't think it will be fixed quickly, but that's me being pessimistic.

I have updated the server again today, it would be ideal if we could come up with some sort of auto-updater for it, so we will look into it.

So, the reviews are killing it right now, so glad I only tested the preorder waters with Dying Light and not this as well.

Review: Forward To The Sky Now On Linux
1 Feb 2015 at 7:41 pm UTC

I have to agree on all points, and their "full controller support" is part of what sold me, and it's a complete lie. They have now changed it to say "partial support", so I'm a bit annoyed by that.

Such basic things like a main menu that doesn't tell you what the buttons do, so you need to click them to see what each section is.

The colouring and style of the character really doesn't fit in at all with the surroundings, and it makes it look a bit odd.

The combat is pretty damn lifeless too, the enemies are easy, run away, and it just isn't fun.

On my game the system mouse cursor is always on the screen too, and I have reported it to no reply from the developer.

"Verdict: don't get this game."
Seriously? Why so hostile? How about "Wait until the developer fixes it, unless you want to participate in bug hunting".?

Sometimes things are broken on linux because you don't earn enough money by supporting linux.

"supporting broken games will only get us more broken games"
This is techlands first linux release, so of course it is going to be buggy (especially considering its state on other platforms).
Be not confused by the shining knights at aspyr and feral, those guys are exceptional.
The guys at Techland are swiftly reacting to bug reports and releasing new patches, so why not give them a chance? Things will surely get better as their experience with linux (bad management decisions and public relations) improves.

A prominent linux gaming site telling people not to buy a AAA-game with a day one release without even giving those developers some time for bug-squashing is ridiculous and will not help anyone.
It is not Techlands first release, as already mentioned.

Also, you're confusing hostility with protecting people from wasting money right now on a badly broken game. Considering how expensive this game is, the best advice for people is to wait, not to sugar coat people into buying it on the chances that they fix it properly. To say otherwise would be irresponsible of us.

A broken release is nothing to do with earning money from Linux, it is to do with very little QA done on the platform.

Neither is Aspyr a shining knight nor is Dying Light Techland's first Linux game (see Dead Island).
To be clear, Techland had nothing to do with the Dead Island Linux port.

Actually, we have no idea who actually did the Dead Island port. It probably was Techland, as everyone is being silent on it.
