Macs have a system update lifespan, which seems to be around 8 years now, after which you need to stop using macOS on them. Windows and Linux will continue working happily. I’m a long-time Mac user, though not macOS user since some years ago, and I love their hardware, though with Linux there’s always something that makes it harder to use than it could be.

For someone who just wants to play an online game it’s irrelevant how the anti cheat is implemented and what it installs in their system as long as things continue working. If they’re not a cheater, they are happy they will have less of those to deal with.

It’s us Linux users who bring in other considerations like privacy and control over their own machines into the discussion, since these are among the reasons we use Linux in the first place. But we are 1 per cent. This discussion does not exist for the vast majority of people out there. It’s us who want to have our cake and eat it. And it’s not a jab or anything, I’m like this as well.

Yes, I was all about taxes as I understood dvd was talking about the price differences between europe and the us, which admittedly are staggering.

There’s always the option to buy a box, eg here W3 costs around 33€ from a shop. I haven’t actually looked at the box to see if it’s a steam key. It’ll be rather useless to a Linux user if not, plus there’s always the debate about whether it counts as aLinux sale or not.

At least in Germany, law protects us from such behaviour. Suddenly showing VAT later in the order process is illegal (for private customers), so we're always shown full price from the beginning.

dvd said we were getting screwed on prices, that’s what my reply was referring to.

As for the rest of what you’ve written, I don’t know what you’re trying to say? It’s probably illegal everywhere in the eu.

The price in Europe includes VAT, prices in the US don’t. There’s no VAT on digital purchases in the US. There is VAT on physical ones, but prices are always quoted without it and it’s added at payment time only if the company you’re buying from has business presence in the state you’re in.

Plus, their tax is something like 7%, depending on state, not 15%+ like in Europe.

Better in what? In videogames you get either a truncated image, or black borders on top and bottom. All videos are 16:9 now, so black borders again. When just using an OS and applications, there isn't much significant difference between 16:9 and 16:10.

Why so aggressive? No one is taking your precious 16:9 screens away. I prefer 16:10 and that is that.

Dells have 16:10 screens.

That is nice. I was talking about Linux only hardware vendors, however. All these 13, 14, 15 inch laptops they sell have 1080p screens.

Care to elaborate? I have a 13.3" display with full HD resolution. Works perfectly ok.
