amelcher some more feedback:
1st) the steam controller is takesn as an ps4 controller which isn't a good choice cause that way you don't have a map key at all. Better -> take it as xbox 360 controller (which you can change in setup but yeah ...)
2nd) I didn't had any music at all. Someone mentioned it on my stream. So i looked it up. lib32-openal was installed but it still didn't work. So i checked my /etc/alsoft.conf. The issue was the sources=128 , which shouldn't be a problem but it is. I raised it to 256 and all was fine.

I hope that feedback helps a little.

amelcher maybe ship a open_al lib and make a small sh script which setups LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the open al library could fix the open al issue too. Cant wait for the controller fixes.

How SteamOS could become a better console competitor
19 Feb 2016 at 10:24 pm UTC

Sorry the biggest problem i see at the moment is that to many ports works better on windows in to many different configuration. As long as windows + steam on the same hardware performs significant better, the main reason to choose a dedicated game OS is gone.

Second while i don't like it , but 99% of the windows centric media will compare fps cause they do it for anons now to compare pc's. So fps will count.

Third steam os / steam machines wont be compared to consoles cause sorry while the experience has vastly improved ... people want 1 "click" controlls over all the content which is available on a console. Want to see netflix -> press a to start and completly useable with controller because seperated app. Want to post a message in a forum -> press a to start the forum specific overlay / app and again all works great only with the controller.

The list goes on ....

A developer on Tesla Effect details why the Linux port never arrived

Hmm i know for sure that flibit has a working video solution for his fna framework. Here i would gladly invest money (patreon or so) in flibit to make a platform crossover replacment of bink sdk. But maybe we need to first contact flibit and the tesla guys if that would be a option :)
I mean once it works in teslagrad it could be opensourced. This would bring up some competition into the market and on the other side help all those "stranded" indie dev's.

Ars Technica Benchmarks Show Windows 10 Beating SteamOS Performance

Quoting: Glog78This list goes on. Let me ask a real question here , which market is the target for steam machines right of now?
Console gamers?
Why do you think console gamers should use a steam machine over their console ? Current Gen consoles are cheaper have a better lineup in terms of AAA tittle's deliver on all games a satisfying performance without adjusting any setting. They even might have the advantage of not needing to download GB's before they can play a game. Just insert a DVD and go for it...
Or let me say it different ... if i have a Batman Arkham Knight on PS4 without any tuning ... the PS4 cost 350$ + 60$ for the game its 410$ ... thats still 90$ less than the alienware steammachine. Not to mention that even alienware doesn't believe 100% in steam os -> http://www.alienware.com/Landings/steammachine/ [External Link] < or why is there the alienware alpha advertised too ?
