STASIS, the point & click horror game is now officially available for Linux
29 Jun 2017 at 12:18 pm UTC

Quoting: grumpytoadI'm unsure why the game is not marked on steam as linux compatible, anyone know why that is?
It simply hasn't been shifted over to their main branch. I've bought it and it shows up on my SteamOS/Linux library listing, and by all accounts, runs in Linux. (I've not installed and played it yet.)

Two Worlds II RPG delayed for Linux

Quoting: LinuxerIt's actually warming to hear it put like that! They obviously really care and want to push Linux gaming, seemingly now empowering their efforts.
This was my take away from this too. It's disappointing that it's delayed, but it's wonderful to hear a tone of commitment in the developer's voice.

This is very heartening news. :)

The first of the free Dying Light DLC will add new enemies

Yay!! For my money, this is one of the best conceived and executed zombie games available on any platform. While I roll my eyes at news of yet more content oozing into Payday 2, I'm delighted to hear that more is coming to Dying Light!

Looks like 'Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey' has Dropped Plans for Linux

I'm pretty sure the phrase "Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents:" means "Neil deGrasse Tyson got paid a fat licensing fee for his name".

Well, eff *"Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey."*

I'll stick with Clark's Space Odyssey,

with Bowie's Space Oddity,

Sagan's Cosmos

and my lovely beloved Linux, thank you very much.

:P

PAYDAY 2 - Ultimate Edition is now live

Quoting: scaineIf they've fixed in-game voice chat, I might actually buy this .... I often do as well, but there was a period of a few weeks where I was regularly kicked from heists for ignoring in-game voice chat. I think it'll mainly only affect stealth missions, where the later missions are basically impossible without proper collaboration and timing.
I wouldn't let that stop you. I use a mic (because Win players can hear our mic) and tell people early on that my game is "buggy" and I can't hear chat. People are usually cool with that. I'd even say that most people seem to use text chat, anyway. As far as stealthing goes, I really don't have much first-hand experience, I play heists "loud" exclusively at this point. Payday's community is generally very helpful and pretty tolerant of newbies, but there's always been a fraction of buttheads who are too quick to kick without cause or explanation. Don't let them drive you away.

Quoting: DribbleondoThey haven't and likely won't. Annoying as that may be, I legitimately never knew anyone who even used it.

I use it pretty regularly, actually; (Though, I'm inclined to agree that they're unlikely to fix it.) I use it to say a quick "thanks" when someone gets me up, and lately I use it to offer bits of quick advice to newer players.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night shows off some action in a new trailer

I'm struck by the game's appearance, wondering what I would call that. I've settled on 3D Side Scroller for the nonce.

A massive 7 Days to Die update is due next week with masses of new content
10 Jun 2017 at 2:12 pm UTC

Wow. I just finished reading the changelog, line by line. It took around twenty minutes. Liam didn't exaggerate when he said it was "massive."

I've had this game since --- what? alpha 8? alpha 9? --- and it has gotten better and smoother with each iteration. It has also had this or that killjoy issue in each iteration as well. A friend and I played a bit in early alpha 15 but stopped because storage chests would randomly become irreversibly locked each session, and we'd lose our inventory, lol. Ah well, the peccadilloes of an alpha release.

The only thing about this game that has continuously irked the ever loving crap out of me is the bizarre material strength system that allow zombies to smash through both dirt and reinforced concrete in a ludicrously and similarly short amount of time. I can smash in the skull of a zombie with a couple of whacks with a wooden baseball bat, yet that same zombies flesh is durable enough to take out a half-meter thick concrete wall. The inconsistency breaks the world-logic and is distracting. Let the zombies inflict damage on themselves as they inflict damage on materials, and give all the materials a broader durability spectrum. Sure, zombies hammering on a stone wall can damage it, but it should take weeks, not hours.

And I shouldn't have spewed all that here. Sorry friends. :P

Overload, the excellent Early Access six-degree-of-freedom shooter updated again recently, looking amazing
7 Jun 2017 at 12:34 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdawe... it also adds in the Holo-Guide (like the Descent Guide-Bot), this feature has helped me enjoy it a lot more, as I tend to get a bit confused with directions when I'm spinning around. You can direct it towards objectives and it's damn useful, looks pretty good too and it doesn't get in the way either.
Oh thank the Big Banger hisself! I played the demo and loved everything except for all the time spent figuring out which way I was going. So much so that I would reluctantly not purchased the game if it hadn't been addressed. Now it Looks like I'm gonna buy it when it leaves its E.Access cocoon.

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition has launched with two new packed expansions
7 Jun 2017 at 12:25 pm UTC

I read this, opened Steam, and bought 'em. Not only is Victor Vran one of the best ARPGs (if not the best) on Linux, the devs are some top-notch, cream-of-the-crop humans.

V. Vran was my first E. Access title and my experience interacting with the devs was the best I've ever had. They went beyond being great at quick replies to player communications, questions, and suggestions; they interacted with us, discussed with us, and made it abundantly clear that we were appreciated.

If you hate ARPGs but love Linux, seriously consider buying this game anyway.
