Quoting: tuubiThat's part of it.Quoting: emphyYou mean how the price axis starts at $200?Quoting: The_AquabatThat is just a consequence of 2080ti's price. For the marketing trick you need to be at the other side of the graph. I'll leave it for you to discover; it's quite subtle.Quoting: bisbyxcompared the 3070 to the 2080ti, then compared the 3080 to the 2080 (non super). They primed your brain so when you hear "twice as fast" you think "twice as fast as the 2080ti"... Even though 25% faster than the 2080ti is exactly what their graph (shown in the article) roughly says.interesting I didn't notice the 2080ti at first glance they put it like in furthest part of the graph another marketing technique here??

These cards are all way out of range of what I consider to be acceptable pricing, no matter how good the performance.
What's much more interesting to me is that the rx5700xt numbers are not all that much behind in the reviews (price/performance ratio) and that I am already seeing those cards in the used market for *very* reasonable prices, which I expect to get even more tempting in the coming few months.

Quoting: BumadarNot much will change in the short run, long run this is bad, licenses will be changed by nvidia as they now both own arm and will get more arm devices themselves and thus compete with the same people they sell licenses to. I guess risc v no longer sounds as bad for a lot of companies. There is also the potential for abuse of arm's market position by linking gpu licensing to arm.
NVIDIA announce the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070 with 2nd generation RTX

The price class I am more interested in has been nicely cut off from that first graph (hint: it's not on the right side).
Impressive as the performance of the new releases is, this new generation will actually interest me when/if amd and/or nvidia release a sub-$200 video card with faster than 2070 super performance or, even better, a sub-$70 card with faster than 1660 super performance.

Quoting: TuxeeWould depend on whether there is some sort of vulnerability/feature that could be abused by lenovo, like they did with the "Windows Platform Binary Table" to have the bios install adware on fresh windows installs.Quoting: emphyGreat; now we will likely also get lenovo bloat- and spyware for linux, including that one that gets reinstalled on a fresh os install ...What would hinder you to re-install a pristine distribution on the machine? The same I did with my X13 I bought a few weeks ago. Took me 15 minutes to have the machine up and running.

Now I am wondering, though; that method used "Windows Platform Binary Table", which obviously is not present in linux. Does linux have a similar feature and, if so, could it be easily disabled?

Quoting: HoriLenovo has been shown to have the bios install adware on fresh windows installs, so "just uninstall" is not a good recommendation in this case.Quoting: emphyGreat; now we will likely also get lenovo bloat- and spyware for linux, including that one that gets reinstalled on a fresh os install ...Nobody's forcing those apps on your existing PC. If you don't want them, don't buy those laptops, easy. Or just uninstall them.
