So, I played... Black Mesa

Quoting: Mountain ManDo you have snarks by that point in the hands game? I can't remember.
Me neither. During my initial playthrough, I killed them with grenade launcher; that was the most solid way to stop them. Following playthroughs, I simply cheated, spawned the weapons I like and let snarks to eat them... :P

Quoting: Mountain ManMy method for dealing with the ninjas in the original is to plant laser mines around the level and then hide until they blow themselves up. This works surprisingly well.
One word; snarks. ;-)

Quoting: SmilexAlso did they remove the ninjas from the game? Those where the worst experience in the original.
Black Ops are still there and they are as annoying as they were; quite fragile but seriously hard to hit due to absurd speed of running and jumping.

Some thoughts on The Original Strife: Veteran Edition

Quoting: GuestAfter watching parts of the video Rea987 linked I want to play Strife… But just to be sure, does it block alt-tab? And is it possible to remap the keys and play with a non-qwerty keyboard layout?
Well, if you get Steam version,

(Shift+Tab) + (Alt+Tab) would work for you.

Some thoughts on The Original Strife: Veteran Edition

Strife: Quest for the Sigil is an interesting title which was introduced me by Ross's Game Dungeon. It was an abandonware back then; so I have a shot with GZDoom and it worked flawlessly. When the game was released on Steam as The Original Strife: Veteran Edition, I was quite shocked to see a publisher remembers its existence.

Yeah, Veteran Editions some technical issues; as a Doom Engine game its new renderer uses unnecessary amount of system resources that users of older hardware consider to switching original software renderer. It's not a game killer by any means but not being able to have enhanced graphics with older hardware was a bit bummer. Frankly, I still consider it the most creative id Tech 1 game ever made. Such a shame financially it couldn't do well...

The 'System Shock' remake has switched from Unity to Unreal Engine, Linux still aiming for day-1 release

Quoting: CorbenWould be nice to see the demo also updated, so we can be sure they don't run into issues like EVERSPACE has run into.
Yeah, Unity base demo had unplayable framerate on my mediocre laptop. I would like to test the Unreal Engine 4 demo.

Croteam say all Serious Sam games are on their way to Linux with Vulkan, also VR on Linux teaser from Valve

Well, that's interesting, really. As some of you might aware, the original Serious Sam games was re-released, remade, re-ported many times.

Here are the ones on Steam:

- Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter [External Link]
- Serious Sam Classic: The Second Encounter [External Link]

- Serious Sam Classics: Revolution [External Link]

- Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter [External Link]
- Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter [External Link]

- Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter [External Link]

SSC:TFE and SSC:TSE are unmaintained for years, I hardly expect any Linux support for them. SSC:R aims to merge TFE and TSE by using original engine with modern features as well as Steam integration; it's still in early access and being developed by another indie team, Alligator Pit.

As SS HD series and SS3:BFE uses Serious Engine 3 and 3.5 respectively; I expect HD series to be ported into GNU/Linux. Ryan C. Gordon (icculus) re-ported [External Link] the Classic games into Linux recently but incompetent me could not compile it...

The Linux port of Banished is still alive, the developer plans their next game to launch cross-platform on day-1

Frankly, I am getting sick of "oops, we tried but could not succeed, but we promise; the next game will be Linux compatible for sure" behaviour. Why do developers not just say "sorry, we don't have time, manpower and resources for our existing library but we may consider next releases"? Failing to deliver a promised or even hinted port is worst than not considering the port in my opinion.

Early Exclusive: Civilization VI to release February 9th for Linux with a discount, NVIDIA only for now

Quoting: Mountain ManThat's incorrect. It will count as a Windows sale because it's a Windows key. Steam keys are OS specific.
That's what I am wondering; yeah, in that scenario it's counted as Windows sale but considering that the game was activated and played only on Linux, it should be counted as Linux "play" if there is such thing.

Quoting: NasraOn french Civilisation V boxes, Linux is clearly on the box... I don't know if it is counted for Linux sales...
Those Civ V boxes are probably issued after the Linux port was released; so they should be counted as Linux sale. But boxes without Linux logo are with the Windows keys. So, activating a Windows boxed game which gained Linux port later is no different than activating a Windows key from 3rd party website.

Quoting: jordicomaI have probably a "classic question". If I buy the boxed version and install with the steam code on linux. My money will go for the linux or windows version?
Your payment will most probably go to the original developer and the publisher since retail versions were already "sold" by the publisher before the Linux version was shipped. But your OS would count as Linux.
