A whole lot of people picked up a shovel for A Game About Digging A Hole

I always have satisfaction when a indie studio are successful for trying something different. The malaise of only pursuing the same old concepts afflicts not only big studios, but indies too. I hope they hit gold and can get as deep as Moria.

Really? I watched the trailer and it looked like a PS4 game.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater releases in August

It's a series of games I never got into, sadly. They have such a loyal fanbase, must be doing something right. I think it was MGS5 that I tried to play, but spent like 40 minutes watching cutscenes in a plane on the way to the first mission. I just remember thinking that I'd have been better off watching a movie instead.
Yeah, me too. Unskippable cutscenes are not for me. Although I have more patience now for slow pacing games, I still don't think I will take this one.

The Capcom Arcade Classics & Fighters Pack Humble Bundle has lots of goodies again
13 Feb 2025 at 7:30 pm UTC

My dream is Capcom finally makes the effort to re-release licensed arcade games they did in the 90's, like Area 88 and Alien vs Predator, but specially Cadillac & Dinosaurs (their best beat'em up).

But I would be happy if they just ditched the awful "Capcom Arcade Stadium" interface, and do what Bitwave did with the Toaplam arcade games, a direct launch to the game itself and from there you can make changes as necessary.

Crytek lay off 15% of staff with Crysis 4 on hold

Crysis is one of those franchises I wish would be yanked from the original creators, and given to a developer who cares.

So much potential there, but so little will to use it right, like the disappointing remaster they released.

This one seems to try something new. I will give it a go to see if it's fun.

Stellar Blade to be optimized for the Steam Deck and other "UMPC environments"
11 Feb 2025 at 2:02 pm UTC

UMPC is the actual category name for Handheld PC? Huh. And ultra-mobile... I initially thought it'd mean "ultra-mini PC" but I guess that would make it ambiguous with Single Board Computers.
Never heard of this term before too. Most people I see just call the Steam Deck and similars as "portables".

The latest Valve Steam Console rumour with AMD RDNA4 can be safely ignored - here's why

Regarding new hardware to justify a new Steam Deck, youtuber ETA Prime did a test with the new APU Z2 Go on a Lenovo portable, and the result were not pretty. It barely beats the Steam Deck, and the CPU is a couple years newer.

So yeah, anything capable of beating the Steam Deck by at least 50%, is way more expensive and much more power hungry. Until something can deliver a big jump in performance, while being as cheap and power efficient, we are not getting a Deck 2.

SteamDolls - Order Of Chaos stealth-meets-action platformer arrives February 11

The trailer doesn't have much gameplay. It always makes me nervous that development started without a defined gameplay stile. One thing Nintendo does right since forever, is building a core gameplay to see if it's worth building a game around it.

You can now GoPro with your Steam Deck and mount it to your belly - or wherever you want

@Tchey

Well, I think it reflects the obsession with big screens people have today. Almost nobody is buying smartphones with small screens, for example. On laptops, most young people I see go for bigger screens too.

In the past, people were really in miniaturization, especially in the 80's when the Japanese really dived in to it. Things had to fit your pocket. If I had to speculate, probably because portables were a secondary device, something you use until you get home for your real device, like a stereo system or a computer. Now I have the impression that portables are the only device some people use for a task, so it had to work better than portables of the past and be more comfortable to use over longer periods, hence the big screen phenomenon.

And speaking of the Game Boy, I personally think we are really spoiled today as gamers, because I had one and while it was fun, having the option to play the exactly same game as the latest generation consoles is a amazing thing. Sure the NEC's TurboExpress did it in the past, but today modern portables do it much better, with a unprecedented game catalog.
