GOG formally announce their GOG Patrons subscription donation system

Quoting: ShmerlI buy games only on GOG lately. I wish it was bigger. Catch 22 creates a problem that their Linux users focus is very minimal, since Linux users are only a small part of their total user base that's already quite smaller than Steam's. That doesn't give them a lot of incentives to back efforts like Galaxy for Linux, which is easy to understand.

The other side of it are developers like Hellish Quart's, who pull their games from GOG, saying that all their users are on Steam. It's very annoying for actual GOG users.
I would agree with the "number of users" problem if they only had support for Windows, but they support MacOS too, I don´t think that the number of Linux users are so far behind those on MacOS, if we go by Steam numbers they are even ahead, although I understand that things like the Steam Deck might increase the number of Linux users there, but event taking that into consideration I don´t think that the difference is so big to justify that.

And if we go with the GOG stated goal of "DRM free" games I'm sure that the average Linux user is much more interested on that difference from Steam than someone that uses Apple's ecosystem to chose it over the alternatives.

Right now there are 3214 MacOS games and 2549 Linux ones filtering on their website, if we exclude newer games that support the former but don´t have official support for Linux that would be even less, and if we add games that run through Proton on Linux we would have more Linux executable games on GOG that MacOS ones. I run quite a few "Windows only" games from GOG using Heroic.

They probably cannot do things like maintaining Proton, and much less building something like the Steam Deck, but they could delegate some support to the community collaborating with projects like ProtonDB or Heroic to mention some of them, I don´t think that anyone is asking them to be Proton maintainers as Valve, and Linux users are already used to rely on the community even for Steam verified games.

Star Trek: Infinite from Paradox releases October 12

Quoting: quotI wish companies would start announcing official Proton support. I honestly would trust the stability of that more than most native Linux builds.
For most other games and companies most probably but if this is based on Stellaris engine, that's been working on Linux for years. I've been playing since launch without any issue in multiple PCs and with excellent day one support from Paradox for all the updates and DLCs, not that "Linux will come at a later date" vague commitment from others.

This new game not using something that is already there as Stellaris proves is pretty disappointing.

Baldur's Gate 3 out now and works on Steam Deck and desktop Linux

Not launching for me at all until I switched to Proton Experimental, after that I've been playing for about an hour using the Vulkan renderer everything set at Ultra 4k without DlSS or FSR on Nvidia 535 (4090). For now I will play like that unless I hit some of those Vulkan issues.

ASUS stick an OLED display into a controller, Dell want to reinvent it
6 Jan 2023 at 9:21 pm UTC

So Asus decided to reinvent the controller screen that Dreamcast already tried with very low success? Even the Wii U game pad was a gimmick with very few real useful applications like the Super Mario Maker builder.

The only time that I see dual screen working for me is when they are so close next to each other that you don't need to stop looking at one to use the other, being that a multimonitor setup in PC or something like the DS/3DS where you can use both screens at the same time without diverting your attention from the other.

GOG finally update their store browsing with new filters

Let me know when my money has the same value as the one from Windows and Mac users. I have a couple of hundred games bought on GOG but I refuse to keep buying more from them until the services that they offer me are the same as everyone else on their platform, if I have to do all the managing of the library manually, or with a third party client without any support from GOG, then my money goes elsewhere, thank you.

I'm not asking for them to go full Steam and put Proton/Wine/Whatever on their client, but at least the same features as if I'm using Windows or Mac for Linux supporting titles should be there. While they don´t do that they can join Google and their promise of a Google Drive client for Linux.

God of War is now on Steam and runs out of the box on Linux with Proton

I had problems with the stuttering too using a 3080 no matter the graphic details selected, even at Low the same issue. The thing that fixed it for me to use the FPS Limit in Display options, that by default is disable which I assume that is unlimited. After setting it I've been playing for a couple of hours and everything runs smooth an looks great at 4k Ultra, no more stuttering.

The RPG 'Pathfinder: Kingmaker' is out with critical bugs in the Linux version
29 Sep 2018 at 10:14 am UTC

Quoting: jedinjaAnd has anyone experienced the game not loading at all. just freezing with the fancy in-game cursor?
It happened to me, it seems to be an issue with the static SDL version linked in Unity. I solved it applying the same fix that worked for PoE2, change the launch command to load your system SDL library, mine for example looks like this: SDL_DYNAMIC_API=/usr/lib64/libSDL2.so %command% If it's the same problem that should let you get into the game.

With that change, the fix that Avehicle7887 provided for the sound, thanks again, and the recent update that makes saved games work finally I can get into the game and play.

Quoting: DevlinNow the only remaining blocking issue that I have is that there is no way to load a saved file on Linux, so it makes no sense to play the game until that is fixed.
If you start a new game, finish the dialog > save immediately > and load = doesn't work?

So, the savegames work for me, I saved like 6 times and 6 times it loaded fine. Can you please send me your save game? I can try to debug the issue.
Sure, I uploaded the two save files, the autosave and a manual save just after the initial dialogue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10P4B-Jv_etz1XHYNbISZjsrfpgzJoPY7 [External Link]

The error that I can see in the log is this one:

Quoting: Avehicle7887Can anyone hear music in the main menu? I checked youtube videos and it does seem to have it. I have none and terminal is throwing a bunch of AK errors which I'm reporting to the devs atm.

I reported the bug here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/640820/discussions/5/1734340257883532046/ [External Link]

--------------

A temporary solution to the no-music issue:

I replaced the game's "libAkSoundEngine.so" library file with the one from PoE 2 and now Music, Sound effects and Ambient are all working.

Furthermore there are no more errors in the terminal. For those who don't own PoE2, I have uploaded the library file to this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F3GBGs0FsGVDN-MlL-HALJqtZ7ukUyW4 [External Link]

The file needs to go into "Pathfinder/Kingmaker_Data/Plugins/x86_64".
Thanks. I had the same issue. First the SDL lirary issue, the same that I had with PoE2, then the no music bug fixed thanks to you. Now the only remaining blocking issue that I have is that there is no way to load a saved file on Linux, so it makes no sense to play the game until that is fixed.

Linux version of 'The Coma: Recut' removed at release after taking pre-orders
24 Sep 2017 at 1:03 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestSo do they provide a no-questions-asked refund then for those that pre-ordered the (linux) version?
On Steam when you request a refund there is a "It doesn't work on my platform" option or something like that, I have used it in the past and they didn't ask me anything, just refunded me the money after some days.
