Has someone played DoW III? I just received a 50% discount coupon on Steam and I was tempted to buy it but the reviews there are pretty bad.

Quoting: soulsourceIt's a nice remake. Yet, while I can't name any real reason, I still prefer the original DOS game (which btw. is available at GoG [External Link] and runs pretty well in DOSBox). The original trilogy is also available on Steam with Linux support, on GOG, even being a DOSBox game as you say, only Windows and Mac are officially available.

Quoting: BoldosHhhmmmm... What the hell, Stardock??!!I remember looking at this game on Early Access and almost buying it because they said that it would come to Linux once Vulkan support was in place. At the end I decided against buying it as Stardock had, and still has, as far as I know, zero record of bringing games to Linux and only have made empty promises until now.
1st the Linux support was promised on your roadmap for late 2016/early 2017.
Then, Linux support was pushed to sometime "in the future", expected late 2017 or even later.
Then, any mention of anything even remotely touching Linux support disappeared quietly from all your development roadmaps on Steam and your webpage and even now is not in there anywhere.
And now, a year after initial Early Access release, with originally promised Linux support, you have the guts to come back to ask the Linux community "if there is interest, we *might* port it"? Are you f*cking kidding me??!!
It is this game, which taught me not to spend my € on the promised future Linux support, cuz the developers might change their minds not to support Linux, if this suites them...
Very bad attitude, which I would expect from EA, not from Stardock...

We don't know the kind of issue that they have found but at least they are trying to solve it and not abandoning the project right away. At the end of the day they are a company and I can understand that if the issue with this new engine cost them more than finishing the port they will need to cancel it. In any case I will be grateful to them for trying and I hope that they can use whatever they learn from it on future Linux games, and if they are successful they will have my money.
I don't understand the harsh words in some posts, if they were Firaxis I would because they should have planned a multisystem release, but they are not and they have to work with what they are provided.

Quoting: melkemindOn the Reddit post there is a second answer saying that there are performance issues, so they have at least some version running, even if it is only an engine test.Quoting: BTREEdit: Just saw the reddit statement. I don't know what they could possibly be researching at this stage. The OSX port will be using OpenGL so it's not an additional API issue. Besides which, they've had (presumably) several months to look at the game and code. The lack of clarity and wording makes me suspect it's simply a investment/returns for man hours issue. However well rationalized by them, I still feel like I'm being treated like a second class citizen.Hold on a second now. The wording of their statement almost suggests they actually made a Linux port and it sucked, so 2K pulled the plug on it. Why else would they need to research and prove that their port can perform up to standards? Either that or the Mac port was not up to standards so 2K axed the Linux port.

Thank you to Obsidian and Paradox for being two great Linux supporters with their games, preordered after seeing the news.
But I must say that if I have to nitpick something is that they could have waited more time between the release of the Leviathans expansion for Stellaris and this game, I don't know where I will find time to play both :P

So these platform-specific technologies magically work in the consoles but not on Linux? I suppose that they might work out of the box on XBox but I doubt that the same will happen on PS4.

I bought it yesterday and it works pretty well. The only issue that I had was with the Steam controller default configuration, the trackpad is set to joystick and the camera is uncontrollable on that mode, changing it to mouse-joystick as suggested in a post in the Steam discussions fixes it.

I was thinking about pre-ordering the game the other day trusting on the previous announcement and the existence of Linux version of Civ V and BE. But at the last minute I decided to wait until the Steam OS icon was in the shop to be sure that it would count as a Linux sale.
Now I'm glad I didn't buy it. Well, I will wait, see the reviews and if the game is any good and in the future gets release on Linux I will think about buying it again.

The backer's beta is already available on Linux, some months ago when it launched I tried it and had some issues with poor perfomance on the cutscenes, the game part was working fine, so they already have a working Linux version.

Quoting: JuliusPlease don't make me regret having Kickstartered this *day one Linux release PLEASE*I kickstarted it because KING Art until now have been preety decent with its Linux support on day one. Battleworld Kronos or The Book of Unwritten Tales II, which I also kickstarted, had a day one Linux release or at least pretty close that I don't remember waiting for them.
