Arma 3 Certainly Looks Closer To A Linux Version
27 Apr 2015 at 8:02 am UTC

I havent played/checked Arma3 since it was in Beta/EarlyAccess and i had a Dedicated Server running under wine,

so i dont know if there are Server-Binaries for Linux yet (they were planning to do Linux-Servers since beta aswell) - but if there arent, it could also be that this is "only" the dedicated Server Version for Linux?

Edith:

No, https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Dedicated_Server#Launching [External Link] suggests Server Binaries are out since ages, so scratch my comment.

Gabe Newell Takes To Reddit To Answer Questions On Steam Paid Mods

"Honestly, if they rolled it out with a pay what you want including zero, or just a donation option with a small cut to Valve and the original game developer this would have been much better received I think. People would have been much more open to fully paid mods once that system had been in place for a while too."

Steam Officially Starts Allowing Paid Mods In The Workshop, People Are Upset

I See a lot of room for Drama.

When people buy stuff with money, they automatically demand stuff. Working Features, somewhat continuus development, etc.

On the other hand we will have a significant amount of scammers hoping for the Quick Money with all the negative aspects that Early Access brought to steam.

There will be Drama around this, and its just a matter of time. And then Valve will have to make restrictions.

And Copyright people will love this, lots of people to sue!

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?

- Why do you dual boot?

After all, it saves time. I sometimes like to actually play games when coming home from work, and not work more to make them work.

And thats fully a "graphics drivers vs Xorg" issue whats consuming that much time for me.
Today i wasted 9 hours again in trying to get nvidia-optimus/bumblebee running in some kind of reliable fashion, with the end result that my x wont start anymore.

Oh my god thinking of Wayland and Vulcan makes me happy.

X Rebirth Space Sim Now On Linux In Alpha Form & Free On Steam For The Weekend

Considering a lot of people still classify this game still in an "unplayable state" on windows, im surprised. ( And im not even thinking about the obvious performance problems here, but rahter "the economy tears itself apart the longer the simulation runs"-kind of problems)

I do like the X-Games and got that one on launch, but they really screwed it up (like ego always does :D) but so far i was still "waiting to be fixed on windows".

Not sure what to think of this then, but i may well be surprised!

Tell Blizzard You Want Linux Support In Their Games

But you do know that "DRM" is "Digital Rights Management" and is a nother word for "Copy Protection" ? Ive never seen anyone making profiles with e.g. SecuROM. The only problem you should have with DRM is that it violates the Open Source / GNU principles, thats it. But thats the struggle you have with trying to run a subscription based game service.

Battle.net is basicly the same as Steam and i havent see you rant below Steam-Related posts at all.

14 Steam Machines Revealed At GDC, Some Thoughts

Yes. Seems like if they wanna sell it they have to make some heavy marketing to convice people who want to buy a console that a steam machine is the better deal. Or they have to come with loads of Steam-Games bundled.

The Pricetags are really ... high.

But yeah, you can compare to XBone / PS4 on raw money, but that leaves out that theres basicly no XBone/PS4 Game under $60 and the fact that you need to buy the Premium Subscription Service (XBox Live / Playstation Plus) with a monthly fee to play online.

Whereas, on the Steam machine you have a higher hardware cost but no mandatory Subscription Fee to play online, and you can rely on the Game-Key market for new releases which mostly comes down to 10-30% cheaper for Day1 releases of new games.
