Sweet. I am hoping it supports Secure Boot. While there are methods of turning it off on the AtariVCS, I haven't yet, but have been waiting for SteamOS to put on it!
Edit: no secure boot yet...

Quoting: catbox_fugueglad to see everyone has reported ET:Legacy being the maintained source port successor to the freeware open source original WolfETI have found there isn't much that doesn't still run by simply installing the libstdc++-compat package in modern distros. Was a few years ago, but I even got the native build of Heavy Gear 2 to work (the Loki port). There has been the long running "but Linux always breaks backwards compatibility!" But I have found it far better than Windows, which will randomly break things with an update. The removal of SafeDisc left a lot of original software unplayable.
amazing that the original v2.60b binaries still works on modern OS without much issues

Found an interesting fluke! Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance has a native build, which is what is installed on my desktop setup.
The Deck installed the Windows version, which broke cloud saves!

Quoting: wvstolzingHa, he is! Actually I work with a couple Larses... that is an annoying one to pluralize. They are cool, unlike Lars Ulrich.Quoting: pete910Metallica fan I bet !:grin:Spoiler, click me
Even Metallica fans generally admit that Lars Ulrich is a colossal asshole, though.
Steam Deck gets a small update to add more keyboard layouts

Quoting: KROMIs it just me, or is the keyboard pretty unresponsive? It always misses touch inputs and therefore it's a chore to write chat and discord messages with it. That there is no dictionary, doesn't make it any better. Maybe the first issue is theme related?I have had mine... I guess 'through click' on me. (Where I use the touch screen to type and it selects something on the window behind it. This was in Desktop mode.

Quoting: F.UltraI think you people are a bit to negative here. Fully understandable with the experience from EA and other big firms but Embracer Group, at least so far, looks to be genuinely interested in producing games and having the studios run independently.Dude's name is Lars, and I have never met a Lars that I didn't like!
In their Annual Reports each studio is presented individually with a list of what games they currently sell and what they are working on for the future, zero mentioning of "consolidation goals" or "business optimization". I also note that they buy studios by way of share issues so each studio becomes shareholders of Embrace Group.
They are also no big venture capital owners of the company, 61.12% of the votes are owned by 3 people Lars Wingefors from Nordic Games (that became THQ Nordic that become Embracer) and Matthew Karch and Andrey Iones that founded Saber Interactive.

In my belief, a key factor to our success is that entre-Lars Wingefors
preneurs who become part of Embracer maintain their
creative and operative freedom while they can go faster
and boost their growth by being docked into our growing
eco-system and available resources. We are steadily
seeing more cooperation between the independent oper-
ating groups – for the simple reason that it makes sense
for everyone. We hope that access to the Embracer eco
system will be an even more decisive reason when gam-
ing entrepreneurs chose to become part of the Embracer
family in the future.

Canonical going 'all in' on gaming for Ubuntu, new Steam Snap package in testing

Ubuntu has only survived this long because of Mark Shuttleworth having money.
It still isn't 'the' Linux distro, as there is no such thing. A lot of people don't even recommend it anymore. I now recommend Pop_OS! Or if they want to give me the time to set it up for them, I recommend Debian Stable.

Quoting: scaineAnd they didn't get that way by being divisive.Nope, they got that way by making a better Debian release. Which then became a fork and they did their own thing, that then irritates people as it breaks some compatibility. But that has been the history of Debian. Someone makes a distro based on it, it starts out great, but because they get separate repositories, and try their hardest to keep in sync, but then eventually they can't keep the customizations up, and they die because it becomes too much effort for the developers.

I once got into some debate with a roandom internet stranger about D&D encouraging the murder hobo. It literally gives you advancement for mainly killing things. There is very little non-combat ways to grow your character. This was in a thread where others were complaining that GURPS had a bunch of useless skills in it...

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYes! Can't agree more.Quoting: slaapliedjeI've been playing it some lately too--when Covid started, my group decided to add an extra game, and we went for a nostalgia hit with old school AD&D 1st edition, doing the original Giants/Drow modules. After a couple of years we got a bit sick of the shortcomings of 1st edition, so we thought hey, let's update to the latest--translate our characters into 5th edition.Quoting: damarrinThere’s people who still play d&d? How awesome.Ha, 5th edition is HUGE right now. Granted, I hate it, but sadly you go where the players are.
My package hasn’t moved an inch since Fri evening, I guess German people don’t work on weekends, even in shipping companies.
After playing it a bit, I'm sort of surprised by how . . . not different it is. It has some cute new stuff, all the character classes have various interesting options and schticks they can do. And the system is clearly more systematic--rules are more consistent across the board and stuff.
But you're still really limited by the class system. And there's still hardly any way to do stuff that isn't fighting. Skills are very limited, if anything more so than in late 1st edition. And the spells are still just this ad hoc list of "If the system has this particular spell, you can do this particular thing"--there aren't a lot of utility spells, and your wizard might be able to sling a fireball but there's no feeling like they generally know anything about fire.
All in all, it's kind of fun for a little short term experiment, but there's no way I'd go for it as a system to use for a real campaign.

Change the controller profile to the Desktop Template and the problems of navigating mostly go away.

Quoting: 1xokMy device is fine, played Dark Alliance for like 4 hours(?) Last night.Quoting: slaapliedjeI did see a post on Reddit about the left trackpad feeling weaker on the haptics than on the right one. Sounds like it's intentional though. With regard to the two trackpads, I can't see any difference on my device.
Quoting: slaapliedjeSo far I've fired up Neverwinter (which runs really fast and smooth) and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, which runs flawlessly. I haven't played much of Neverwinter, as it finished downloading very late last night and I need to figure out the controller layout for everything.Performance-wise, the device has far exceeded my expectations so far. The performance of Nier:Automata, for example, is downright amazing. But are there also defects with your device or is everything perfect?
Quoting: slaapliedjeI did have to tweak the desktop mode so it actually had the right controller config to scroll, etc.In desktop mode, the right trackpad goes to full haptic, but remains functionless. The left one does nothing. But this is certainly a software problem.

Instead of pushing Wayland forward, they create Mir. When Gnome-shell first started out, instead of adding some coders to the pool, they decided to do their own thing with Unity, etc. They keep claiming they can do it better / faster, when they should have treated these core components as a community and pitched in. They fork because they want to be THE Linux Distro. But instead all they do is divide people.

Quoting: scaineWeirdly though, when Canonical do this, suddenly it's "they're not collaborating", or they suffer from "not invented here" syndrome.Maybe because they are not collaborating? Microsoft has upstreamed more code to the Linux kernel than Canonical has, for example.
