No more games for the Atari VCS but they did just announce Plex support

Quoting: ElectricPrismSorry gotta be that guy.

Atari VCS coming %YYYY.MM + 6-12 Months

At this point I just wish it was over with andead instead of "coming"
I know it will come out this year.

You know why I know this? 2020 is the year of Disasters! Like it is one giant disaster movie. Even to the point where it includes bad plot lines (like the 5G conspiracy).

So of course everything coming out this year will probably have a recall or otherwise be problematic. So yeah, my bets are on the VCS getting into backer hands before the end of this epically shit year.

NVIDIA driver 450.66 released for Linux, includes a useful Vulkan sync fix

Quoting: robvvWow, I used to have a Matrox Millennium card (I forget which one) back in the day! Good to hear they're still going.
I apparently still have the Millennium II (PCI) and 2x G400s (AGP). I used to have a Marvel G400 as well and the Parhelia.
It is funny, there are many articles stating that the thing that killed the Amiga was Doom. Doom 3 was certainly what killed the Parhelia, as it was one of those games where their openGL was so broken it wouldn't render everything right. Then people just moved on.
Was sad as ATI had crappy drivers, and nvidia's were blurry as hell on CRTs.

Quoting: grigiThere is no real fragmentation in the Windows ecosystem because you don't have a choice.

Tenchically the windows linker is significantly more fragile.
They solved muti-versioning by namespacing all the symbols.
Whilst that works, it significantly reduces the ability to just test to see if a different version of library X works better than the original one.
There is fragmentation in Windows 10 now, thanks to their build / update system.
You now have release.build. if you are running 2004.#### then you can run WSL2, if you have 1909.##49 versions higher than work allows me to run, then Microsoft has backported the WSL2 stuff...
Oh, and if you don't have a specific build or later, if you have certain virtualization features enabled, you can't run VMWare workstation...
While this is a very particular example, it does show that there can be incompatible issues within Windows 10, as they are basically now doing what MacOS X did for many years, just doing small changes, but big enough to cause issues.

Quoting: MohandevirThinking the same, Liam. The concept is cool, but every news that comes out of it is one step closer to DOA. I'm pitying those that backed it and paid for what seems to be an overpriced and under featured experience.

I mean, Anstream? AirConsole? Seriously?

Where is Stadia? Where is Steam Link?

No indies onboard is already bad... Missing on those two is even worse, imo.
The theory is that it should be open enough to throw whatever on there.
What I would like to see is BPM of Steam becoming more PS4 like (with an app store for some streaming apps). Then you really could just through Steam Link app on it and use it as your multimedia center. Then it wouldn't even matter what the specs of the box are, as your gaming computer on the network would be the powerhouse for it.
Yep... But it would make for a pretty expensive streaming box. Even the Nvidia Shield is cheaper than that and I run RetroArch on it.
Yeah, but the Shield doesn't look as cool haha

Baldur's Gate engine remake GemRB celebrates 20 years with a new release
24 Aug 2020 at 7:08 pm UTC

Quoting: redmanHi does anybody knows how to compile it on Ubuntu 18.04 ?

Downloading the latest compiled gives this:

~/games/gemrb-0.8.7$ ./gemrb
./gemrb: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Regards

sudo apt install apt-file
sudo apt-file update
apt-file search libpng12.so.0

if it finds it, install that package, if not then yeah you'll need to compile it.

Baldur's Gate engine remake GemRB celebrates 20 years with a new release
24 Aug 2020 at 6:37 pm UTC

So outside of Icewind Dale 2 (which seemingly will never have an Enhanced Edtion released by Beamdog, as apparently the sources were lost), is there a list of features of GemRB vs Enhanced Edition releases?

I mean GemRB was fantastic when it was first started, as it was a way to play these fantastic games on Linux, and other platforms besides Windows. But at this point the EE versions have been ported to everything under the sun.

Oh, let me rephrase that. It's been ported to all modern operating systems.
GemRB still allows us to play the games on things like the Amiga.

(thought someone did a release for Atari TOS/MiNT, but can't seem to find it at the moment).

The Steam Play Proton compatibility layer turns two years old

Now we just need a better way to get emulation within Big Picture mode. Like work with libretro. *hint hint at Valve*
I haven't used emulation with Steam but why don't you use RetroArch?
I am speaking specifically from the "all in one launcher with the benefits of Steam Overlay's controller config/support"
One interface to rule them all. Then I could just load up a Raspberry Pi4, have it go directly to Steam Link app, and play all the games from there.

Quoting: slaapliedjeTo be fair, I had posted a few times that it'd be awesome if Valve integrated Wine within Steam before Proton became a thing. Whether or not I had any influence on that decision is doubtful, but hey, I was there before it was a thing asking it to be a thing
Do tell us what will happen next oh holy prophet:tongue:

How the hell has it already been 2 years? Time flies sort of even when you've been working from home for 5+ months.
