Microsoft confirm their new Chromium-powered Edge browser is coming to Linux

I wonder if there will come a day when Linux, due to it's huge flexibility and being able to at times run Windows software better than Windows (like older stuff that is no longer compatible to Windows 10, even with it's compatibility layer), that MS will simply throw in a Linux Kernel with Xorg and Wine to get the backward compatibility better.
Hell, let's just replace all of Win10 with Linux, and use compatibility layer, then they can port over some native stuff too. But then where will the telemetry and ads go?? :P

Quoting: NeverthelessI think Microsoft loves Linux the same way fur coat wearers love fur animals. They do tend to wear it, rather than use it. Going with that analogy, if they killed the fur animal themselves, and then skinned it for it's coat, but also properly tried to use the rest of it for food, etc, then due to the GPL, they'd also have to share the food, and the coat.

Some sites literally work in Chrome and not Firefox because Firefox refuses to work with broken ciphers that Chrome only silently complains about. To the point that Chrome moved it under having to open the developer tools, and go under the security audit tab to find that the page is using an obsolete cipher.
So yeah, screw Chrome! I still have never seen the draw for it. Always seemed a conflict of interest to me to have a browser controlled by someone who also owns a search engine.
Firefox and DuckDuckGo for me.

I hope I am not the only one who would love to see an 'Ancient Aliens' mod for a game like this that would just be hilarious.
A bit on topic, the US/DOS version of Ceasar had a white dude that was called a serf you would click on to manage your servants. The Atari ST/European(?) Version had a black person with the label 'Slaves'.
Odd thing about this is that it could have been factually accurate if they had called them slaves and left them white, since the Romans as a whole were not racist, and people of all colors were happily made into slaves. Though I have read that they also usually allowed their serfs to buy their freedom as well.
I do find it amazing that we are so worried about offending people now that we try to change history.
Either way, I am looking forward to this, we have had Egyptian, Greek and Roman versions of this, but this would be the first Babylonian one.

I can't seem to get the game to launch. It plays the first logo screen, then on the second I can hear the music, but it's all choppy like it's moving at 3fps, then I end up killing it after waiting for a while.

I'll take this moment to thank you and the rest of the Stella team for creating such an awesome emulator for such an awesome system!
Makes no sense why they wouldn't just use Stella, as long as they aren't making a bunch of changes and refusing to distribute them, there is nothing wrong with using the GPLv2... Unless like you said, they either were going go lock it all down, or aren't really planning on releasing anything. Does the Atari Vault use Stella code?

Quoting: GuestYeah, that is just plain old dumb!Quoting: slaapliedjeAccording to some on the AtariAge forum, there were even people sending them emails asking if they wanted some games written for it, and there were either no response, or them saying no.We (the Stella team) had an open offer to help get Stella running on the device. Not to do exclusive development on it, of course, but to point their own developers in the right direction. There was no response. Then months later, they said they would be creating their own 2600 emulator from scratch.
IME from similar past encounters with other companies, whenever someone doesn't want to use freely available software and would instead prefer to write an emulator themselves, it almost always means they want to lock the system down (and hence not have to abide by the GPLv2), or the product is going to be vapourware. I suspect the latter. It also usually indicates that their developers have no idea whatsoever about the workload they're about to take on.

Quoting: elmapuli said it.According to some on the AtariAge forum, there were even people sending them emails asking if they wanted some games written for it, and there were either no response, or them saying no. These would have been exclusive remakes of Pitfall (at least) if I recall. So yeah, I don't know what the hell they are thinking. If they had done this right, it could have been pretty sweet, and it initially looked like they were going to, but it looks like they're just kind of flopping around (or is that fapping?).
we just wasted millions of dollars that could be better spend into funding an open source software instead of an console that had no chance to compete and was most likely an crash grab scheme,
Nintendo paid 1 billion to unity to support then back in the WiiU days, this project had much less money than that, why would epic, unity or anyone support then?
their dont pay for the cost of production of an single triple A game.
"They explained that the pre-production Atari VCS units can run both Windows and Linux and that's about it right now."
and as the last nail in the coffin, many people who purchased this, will not wait for the ports, they will just install winodos on it an call it a day, as an result, the developers who might be interessed in supporting it will just support windows instead.
we supported it hoping that it will increase the linux market but it will be yet another dead project hurting the linux "brand".
but at least now every one know an quick way to make money, an carmagedon-esque way of making.
slap linux on your project description, so you get an quick buck fromfoolsactivists, then give us an midle finger.

Like if they had gotten a PPC version of the Video Toaster / Lightwave software plus the Tricaster working on it, maybe more people would buy them.

Quoting: peta77So it's heading the same way as the attempt to revive old times with the Amiga One: hyped at the beginning, delayed for several times and at the end nothing noticeable remaining...The difference I guess is that the Amiga One (and several models at that) finally came out. Problem, as always for platforms that are new (and really the Amiga One was, even though it could basically emulate old Amiga software, it's still a new platform) is that there needs to be developers working on software for it!
Though some more big players on the market would clearly help to push towards more platform independence in general, it seems that the stakes have gotten way to high for someone new to show up in the near future.....

From my understanding of it, Rob Wyatt had left long ago, or was useless for a long time? Maybe that is just from the angry people on AtariAge, not sure.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyHa, we switched to 4th edition and I've had this campaign going for a year, which sadly is the longest we've had one going. We try to play at least once a month, we ended up starting a secondary game for those that can show up more frequently.Quoting: slaapliedjeI'm a GURPS man, myself. Have a GURPS character I've been playing off and on for more than 30 years.Quoting: Purple Library GuySo they've got "hardcore tactical components"? Well, good to see they're not messing around with any lousy softcore tactical components. We all know what that means for pr0n, but what does it mean for tactical components.
Is that like D&D vs GURPS.
For those that don't know about either. D&D is usually 'roll your too hit chance, okay you hit, roll your damage.'
GURPS is 'roll your skill. Okay, enemy rolls their dodge. Failed dodge, roll damage. Okay, he has leather armor, subtract 2 from your damage. You rolled a 4 with an impaling sword thrust, so 4-2 for DR, is 2, and times 2 for impaling, he takes 4 damage. Not quite half of his Health, so doesn't need to roll to see if he is stunned. Next round.'
Now that is softcore vs hardcore :)
But definitely love how much more tactical the combat system is.
