Quoting: FeistYeah, I sadly lost my save game that I had where I managed to solo with a wizard up to 14th or so level... So I'd have to start over, so I'm waiting for the fully enhanced edition before I start that up again. On the bright side, it's been so long since I played it, I only remember the beginning part and a few pieces here and there.Quoting: slaapliedjeTrue, from what I understand it will be a gradual process over time until the whole game eventually looks reasonably "Up to Date".Quoting: TheRiddickcharacter models need updating also, and increases to textures, I wish companies would go to that effort, would be awesome. Atm the enemies look a bit hilarious and hard to take serious :)From what I understood, they did some initial tweaks and were planning on enhancing all the things as they go along.
That is part of what's been keeping me away from playing it on steam. It feels like a shame to play through it again now, only to have the entire campaign look 10X better in 6-12 months of time. Right now, I'm eager to see what comes from this quote:
"New character and weapon models for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition are getting closer! As soon as we’re ready, we’ll be sure to share a few amazing screenshots!"

Also that Giana Sisters game is really fun, but really hard! Granted, the same could be said of the original one as well. There is an improved version of that for the STe that actually uses proper scrolling and such :)

Quoting: edoyou are not mentioning the most interesting aspect. D3D11's Stream Output, now games like Giana sisters and etc will work.I didn't think Proton had mac support.
Btw, sad to see they dropped mac support with this release

Quoting: cprnOne of the companies providing software for my former employer had a minor glitch in their application's update system about 3 years ago that resulted in patches not being properly advertised to Linux clients. Obviously they fixed it right away and promised it'll auto update for each instance next time it bootstraps itself during restart. I don't work there for over 2 years but last month when I talked to my former colleagues they didn't hide their jolly grins announcing none of the machines we used to support had a chance to download that update yet. Linux stability is a bitch when it comes to updates on restart. :DHa, yeah sort of helps if they're restarted...

Funny thing is, lately I have been playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and it randomly crashes to the desktop more often than some of the Proton games. Not sure if I can fault Feral or the game itself or that I am running Debian testing. But playing games with Proton seem more stable than that one :p

Quoting: GuestI still think Valve should release a SteamOS/Linux exclusive title, say, for a month, before hitting losedoze. If you want to play it within the first month you'll have to do it on SteamOS/Linux. Would shake things up a bit for sure.A better idea, and not against Valve's 'exclusives are bad' statement; Bundles! If they can sort out a single model of Steam Machine (maybe something like the Atari VCS, but better hardware...) and sell it as a bundle, so you get the system, with the game for free. People buy stuff like that all the time when they want a console.
More than anything, it would be a shot across the bow that doesn't just threaten the Windows/Microsoft Store's potential monopoly, but would threaten Windows' existing monopoly itself if any AAA title was a SteamOS/Linux exclusive.
Granted, I know most people hate platform/OS exclusives. But literally everyone else has done it except SteamOS/Linux (ok, excluding the small FOSS games out there). What better way to show the market potential; or better, to show that for many gamers, there's no such thing as platform/OS loyalty if there's an awesome game out there to be played.
Fairly soon, there'll be a day where enough devs use cross-platform tools and APIs. Compilers and Debuggers will work the same for all targeted platforms, API calls work the same across all platforms (Vulkan<3<3<3). Middleware won't rely on some archaic, unstable and proprietary framework that is only supported on the big OS.
We're not there yet, and have a ways to go. But look at how far we've come?

Quoting: KingtabbycatHa, well to be fair, that means KOTOR is owned by Electronic Arts, and us getting any Linux native games from them is less likely than MS porting stuff... We already have a few native Microsoft Games Studio games, but I don't think we have any Electronic Arts ones at all.Quoting: slaapliedjeMy bad :dizzy:Quoting: KingtabbycatThe chances for a native version of KOTOR just dropped a drastic amount (not to say they were high in the first place!) :S:KOTOR was developed by Bioware, KOTOR 2 was developed by Obsidian and already has a native release.

Quoting: oldrocker99Why couldn't it have been InXile?:><:Why would you want inXile to be bought by MS? Beside, Brian Fargo wouldn't sell his company. It wasn't like Interplay was bought by MS either. inXile makes some of the best games around and to note, I'm pretty sure Obsidian is made up of a lot of the old Black Isle guys, who used to work for Brian Fargo!

Quoting: g000hI think my least favourite acquisition by Microsoft so far was that of Nokia. They didn't outright acquire it, just take it over for a few (7 ?) years. Nokia had just been putting out super Linux mobiles - The N900 and then the N9. Marvellous phones for their generation.I still have my Jolla shirt, but they still owe me like 100 dollars for the tablet I never got.
Microsoft's plan seemed to be to demolish the existing phone tech, push Windows mobile onto all new devices, and when things went down the toilet (competing against Apple and Google failed), then they pulled out leaving Nokia with a much worse company to rebuild.
Meanwhile, during the take-over, there was a splinter-group of irked ex-Nokia employees who went to form the Jolla mobile company running their own SailfishOS Linux operating system. Jolla is still running but unfortunately isn't doing as well as it had hoped. Meanwhile, I wish Nokia would resurrect those Linux operating systems (Maemo and Meego) and re-release updated versions on new phones.
Meanwhile, it is perfectly possible that a bunch of Obsidian staff (e.g. More than just the Linux devs) will not be happy with such an acquisition, and will leave Obsidian/Microsoft and form their own new indie splinter-company ;) [And I've seen the same happen before, not just with Nokia / Jolla - "Personal experience."]
