I've had less success. No Man's Sky almost wanted to work, got black screen with music. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite just did absolutely nothing.
I haven't played much though. Wish I could get SteamVR to work again...

Same people tried playing Baldur's Gate multiplayer the same way; where everyone splits up and tries to kill everything. That doesn't work in the D&D games because you'll get wasted pretty quickly.
Granted I started playing CRPGs back when they were still called CRPGs :P

Quoting: GuestWas just curious. It definitely depends on one's play style. Hence my comment about Diablo vs Neverwinter Nights.Quoting: slaapliedjeWhat's wrong with party based games? Just wondering your opinion on them. I think some of the greatest RPGs ever released were party based. What's wrong with ?????-games? Nothing at all, but everyone has preferences and dislikes.
You know what's fun (sarcastically)? When you try to get together with friends to play Neverwinter Nights and they try to play it like it's Diablo....
For RPGs I just enjoy more those where I am playing only one role. Too many party members makes it more a strategy/war game. Surely different for multiplayer games, but I play single.

inXile will be 'all hands are on deck' to get the Linux version of The Bard's Tale IV out as soon as possible

Really hoping for the native port as well, but it does seem to work with Proton.

Quoting: ShmerlMeanwhile I'm playing Bard's Tale I remaster [External Link] in Wine+dxvk (got it as a backer reward). Hopefully Linux version will come out after the whole remastered trilogy will be finished. The Bard's Tale remastered is not being done by inXile, and is not a direct code upgrade, they basically had to rewrite the whole thing.
Really hoping for the native port as well, but it does seem to work with Proton.

Quoting: lucinosYeah, for whatever reason Apple has decided once again that they don't want to play with others. It's the reason why they stopped updating OpenGL and because of it anyone who plays Elite: Dangerous on a Mac is stuck without the expansions because they use shaders only available in newer OpenGL versions. Stupid thing about that is we could support that on Linux, but they haven't given us a port yet, and it's still one of the games that refuses to work in Wine.Quoting: TheRiddickMac users are being left out in the cold because MoltenVK development has been slow lately, its missing some critical functions still!MoltenVK is not owned by Steam/Valve of course, but from what I've seen they do contribute.
MoltenVK is not owned or developed by Steam/Valve in case people jump to that assumption (some do).
The obvious reason why MoltenVK is still missing critical functions is that Metal has a fundamentally more narrow purpose than DX12 and especially Vulkan and also these things take time especially when Apple does not contribute at all.
Somewhere I read that Khronos is developing a subset of Vulkan/DX12/Metal that will be easy for application to change from one API to the other. Since every other platform has Vulkan this looks only useful for that.

I backed Bard's Tale IV already, but threw it on my wishlist, if theyre' going to start adding stuff to it, that's just awesome! I posted in another thread that Brian Fargo had marked 5 boxes of the collector's edition that he signed with an X and the lucky people who get those will get all inXile's games for life. I'll have to say he's a pretty awesome guy. If you look at his history of games, there's some seriously huge hits that came from him (like Wasteland/Fallout).

Wow, was just trying to find something about No Man's Sky and how to fix it (seems to either take forever to show anything or and once it gets there, I can't move the mouse). And I ran into this article; https://www.pcworld.com/article/3299641/gaming/steam-adds-proton-making-windows-games-playable-on-linux.html [External Link]

Tropico 5 (latest) is native for Linux and doesn't need such things. And if Valve is not currently looking at Mac support for Proton, it just sort of reaffirms what I've always thought. People who have Macs do not game on said Macs. I'll throw out that probably 70% of macs wouldn't even be able to handle most newer games (I know I tried Total War: Attila on my work provided one and I think it may have gotten one frame every 10 seconds...) and that makes it a niche of a niche. It's like people who game under Linux with VR hardware :P

Then there's a grab-bag of miscellaneous titles, like 2005’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Tropico 4, a.k.a. not even the latest Tropico.and
Alas, Mac gamers are being left out in the cold. From the FAQ: “While Wine and Proton work on macOS, there are no plans to support the new Steam Play functionality on macOS at the moment.” Keep your fingers crossed, I guess.Make me think the article writer is an annoyed Mac user / Linux hater.

Sorry for the off-topic; but on topic of Bard's Tale. Crazy Brian Fargo... they put this in the kickstarter email;
Also, as an extra bonus, I put an "X" on 5 of the signed collector’s boxes that have the team’s signature (look for a photo at the bottom of the update). Anyone who gets one of these special boxes will get all inXile games for FREE for life. Yes, I was thinking of Willy Wonka when I was signing. That'd be awesome! Haven't played an inXile game I haven't liked. Considering they're basically what happened to Interplay and Black Isle (at least I think most of them ended up there).

For those not aware of it, there is the original old school trilogy, then when inXile were fairly new, they came out with The Bard's Tale (which is a top down RPG parody vs the more serious original trilogy (though there definitely were some funny bits in that, like the shortcut for a spell being called NUKE)). The newer Bard's Tale is native for Linux and includes emulation wrappers for the original trilogy that are the Apple IIc(g?) versions.
But there is coming out the Bard's Tale IV. Which also they are releasing (later for Linux? but for Windows right now) The Bard's Tale Trilogy Remastered. It works with Proton at least, but they only have the first one done.

My brother and I played this with local co-op, it's a blast! I actually hunt usually for local co-op games, they're sadly a dying breed.

Quoting: DuncSitting on top of mountains and such without having to actually travel... such epic possibilities.Quoting: slaapliedjeSweet! Google Earth VR (if you guys have never played with it) is freaking awesome!I don't have a headset for my PC, but Street View (and its community-submitted stuff) has become my absolute favourite thing on Cardboard. It's pretty amazing to be able to really look at places you've never been, rather than just see them in photos. It's not even in proper 3D, but it gives a sense of scale and presence that you just don't get from a flat screen or a piece of paper. I'd love to try it on a decent rig.
So it has an implementation of Street View, but since it's like taking a flat map and making it 3D it's warped as hell, and looks much like the first Silent Hill game...
Also grabbing the earth and flying over it is pretty awesome.
